The hood of my 03 mm, is marked "up", I say up because there are many many marks on the hood, not deep but raised, almost like super miniscule
tractor track markings, where the edges are raised and not indented, somewhat star shaped, with a consistent pattern, I tried a cut wax, but didn't help,
considering trying a wet sand, any suggestions on wet sanding?, another description might be like throwing sand on a wet paint job.

03 has random issues with paint, clear coat popping, rust forming underneath. Mostly on hood, roof, rear deck lid. Sounds like you have symptoms

Thank you, that probably explains it, it seems to come from the inside outward.

Would lacquer checking be the same as possible rust contaniment?.

No, lacquer checking looks like tiny cracks in the paint, usually all over.

Yes, thank you, it looks exactly the same, knowing the source of the problem is half the battle, do you know if a wet sanding could help this?.

I read the rest of your post, great information on what to do with this problem, wet sanding won't work.

ive been keeping it under control but mine has the same symptoms paint wise, it looks like splinter in the clear but actually is the entire paint. I call them crows feet, I know of someone else with the same thing you have to strip it and start from scratch

Was wondering if it would cost less to just buy a whole new hood from another car, any one know what years and models of cars would work?.

You could easily buy a new hood and have it painted at a local shop. Buying someone else's problem will only cause more pain (IMO)

Take your car to the strip club. My roof (which was reshot under warranty) was doing the same thing as the hood was, so...

100% true, back in the 80’s when I was working in a Ford store, I got into doing all the warranty paint repair, delaminations , lacquer checking etc., it was a full time job.
