View Full Version : Got a cop who wants to race
I have a cop in town who just bought an 04 GTO and wants to race me. He is even serious enough to throw in some dough.
Now, is that a cool cop, or what? Of course, I won't take the bait until after the SC goes in but when it does, oooooh boy, am I going to take some of his hard earned money. :)
I just cannot wait.

Dan

That's the sad thing about these cars, for the $$$$$$ we paid for them they should have come with supercharged power.

I read that 04 GTO runs dead even with Mach l at 13.50s @ 105. See July

That is what I heard as well. The Mach does run pretty well. When I raced a GTO with the Marauder, it might as well have been a cavelier! The only strike against a non supercharged Marauder is its weight.

Best result published so far was 13.14 @ close to 110 mph, stock. If the new LS1s behave anything like the older LS1s and the Marauder's 4.6 DOHC, it'll loosen up BIG TIME once it gets some mileage on it. My WS6 went from 13.9/14.0 to 13.4s with nothing other than putting about 14000 miles on it.

^^^ What he said. Keep it fair, square, and within the law. Nice and tidy like.
No need to mention the s/c if you can sneak it by though. That would indeed be a righteous victory. :burnout:

 :lol:To someone who has a car as UGLY as the new GTO I definately would. I'll take his entire bank account if he wants to put it up. Ofcourse if he does put up some $$ I would be fair enough to inform him that my Marauder is "modified".

At least give him a chance to bail!!! I would say the GTO is ugly but I cant tell it from a Grand Prix or Am or what???

I must say, here, that I've raced many people that I've met while on traffic stops. I usually pull over a car for speeding and end up BS-ing with the guy about his ride... then we end up bumping into eachother on the street and the story snowballs from there.
Also, I have to say that the GTO is really growing on me. I still don't like it's rear styling and I think the profile needs some massaging, too. Besides that, the interior is awesome and the front end is pretty nice. When the Judge version pops out in a few years, I might be waiting with a check in hand.

I dunno.......w/a car that looks as beautiful as the one you have, I don't see how a new GTO can even occupy any of your thoughts. The thing looks like a rodent w/wheels. Now if it were a 64 GTO, then I could understand. To each his own I guess.

Billy - you have to understand that I drive CVPI's for 10 hours a day and I sit in the same basic interior for at least 180 miles a shift. Granted, my MM is quite different in terms of comfort and performance... but it's still the same BASIC car. I love my MM, but I need something different. I'm starting to grow tired of the full-size Ford life. Maybe I'll try a new Mach 1 or Cobra when they finally hit the floors in a few years... or maybe it'll be a Judge. Who knows. In a few years you might hit the Lotto and be riding in a GT that you paid double-MSRP for.
Anyways, I'm afraid I might have led this thread astray. Let's get back to the topic at hand: Cops racing the public!

Billy - you have to understand that I drive CVPI's for 10 hours a day and I sit in the same basic interior for at least 180 miles a shift. That's a good point. And one that I can't even relate to. Who knows. In a few years you might hit the Lotto and be riding in a GT that you paid double-MSRP for.LOL.....you're killin me :bigcry:
Patrick,
I will gladly sneak the SC past him and take his money in the process.
Here are some more details...When he told me that his new car would beat mine I asked him what it was and he asked me to pay him. I said, "What, that's not how it works. It's pay to see what's under the hood not what your driving!" It was then that he told me about what kind of car it is.
Oh yeah, I got no problems walking away with his hard earned cash.
And on that note, BilllyGMan, if I have it MY way it will be a BLUE Marauder that he will forever remember after the day we race. :) Beating him with Black is special but I gotta tell ya, I think beating him with Blue is more special. (And I know that you won't agree, either. :) )
Sorry, I won't be sharing this guy with any of you. He is mine and I am saving him until I have the right equipment.
Oh, and I will try to have video along for the ride if I can work it out. Perhaps two cameras.
Best,
Dan

Dan, that's fine w/me. Just remember though, that the more time that passes since his original statements until you're ready,, the more likely that he will want to check under your hood before he races you. If it takes you several weeks to except his challenge, then he's going to suspect that you put some serious $$ into your car. And if he's as much a HP freal as some of us are, he might perform some modifications to his car as well by then, and w/a car that's equipped w/that LS1 engine, and being lighter than our cars, he would NOT even have to supercharge it in order to beat your car even w/a S/Cer sitting under your hood.
Trust me. I know about this based on how close a race that I had was. I won, but not by much. So now might be your only chance to shut this guy up. I don't even care all that much about the $$. But all this is just food for thought for ya. Do what you will. Just remember what I said.
I hear ya, Bro. But if I brought you in he wouls prolly also suspect that he was being set up.
I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground when I am around the force. I am sure that if he starts to hop it up I'll be able to find out from the other guys.
Best,
Dan

You mean the money that it would take to repair my car if he wrecks it? :nono:
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
 Wreck it? You must be kidding! :)
Hmm, let's see, I borrow Billy's car, which is black, and hope that cop doesn't notice it is a different color from my car, which is blue. Hmmm. Not quite sure that would work out.
I think what I will do is to bide my time and play it cool. This guy felt pretty confident. Perhaps too confident. He wouldn't be so willing to race if he wasn't so sure he was gonna win. I think that I might be able to set him up anyway and have my fun. I won't seem eager to do it. I'll just go along with his eagerness instead.

Unless, he's not as ignorant of the Mods available to us Marauder owners as most people are, and he has also modified his GTO, and that's the reason why he's so confident. That's a longshot and highly unlikely, but you can't rule it out.

Oh, you guys think you're so smart. :P
Well, I have the plan all sorted out. First, I get the Kooks setup on the car. This will be a noticable mod and will be something he will ask about. Of course, I will tell him about them and the HP gain and blah, blah, blah. It should seem to the cop that the exhaust is where my enthusiams to race hiim is coming from.
That should be the end of it. Hopefully.
My guess is that the guy won't be doing much to his car due to warranty issues. That is my guess. Either way, it won't matter. I have decided that when I go against him I probably won't place a bet on it. I would be afraid that, even if I won and got paid, that somehow down the road I would be the one who winds up paying in the long run.

Dan

Dan, that's the best idea I'bve heard!! I think that is the most likely plan to succeed. But I also think that you have me, or Frank, or anyone else in on it to watch, that we should be there, but not seen, so that GTO guy will NOT be aware that you planned on an audience. That way he won't catch on nor suspect that you've done something to really wake up that small engine under the Marauder hood. ;)
Now I'm really looking forward to your challenging encounter w/this GTO owner.
Bill,
I'll invite you to ride shotgun with me. :)
The cop knows Frank so if he is there it will seem normal. Frank can wave the start.
It should be quite fun and I can't wait.

Dan

And I had a Vette for 6 years that I just sold last month. But that's my opinion, and I'm sure you have yours. However, let me say that 12.2 ET's are very familar to me w/my Marauder and I have more than one timeslip to prove that. I suspect that any Z06 Vette cost more $$ than I have into my Marauder.
But let me point out to you that just because your buddy's vette turns a 12.2 ET and has 385 HP doesn't neccessarily mean that your car will turn a better ET simply because you have more HP than his car does. What about gears in the rear, his vs. yours, and other possible modifications too? Gears and transmission upgrades will usually NOT increase HP but WILL reduce ET's. Furthermore you have to look at what tires he ran on the track. Were they slicks, or drag radials? There's other factors here than simply HP.
And even when it comes to HP, when you say that yours has 405, isn't that at the flywheel? If you're going by the factory specs than it IS. And if he's modified his car or had it dynoed, and is claiming 385 HP, then that spec is taken at the rear wheels. And the HP at the wheels will always be approximately 20% less since the drivetrain absorbes that much and sometimes a bit more.
So if he has 385 HP at the rear wheels, and your car is bone stock w/a factory spec of 405 HP then his car actually has more HP than your does.
