Well, I've had my Marauder for over 20 months now and I can't believe that I didn't notice this sooner. :fire:

Sitting in my car on a raining day, waiting at a stop light, I'm looking around the inside like I usually do just checking things out, I notice how smooth the rubber molding around the inside of the passenger door looks, so I glance over to the drivers side where I'm at to compare, it doesn't look the same.

As a matter of fact, the rear doors also looked smooth, so now I'm ready to check things out when I get home to see why it looks different.

Lo and behold, the molding was put on backward or inside out, :mad2: luckly it's hot and sunny outside, so I take the molding off and let it soak in the sun until the rubber was soft so I can then put the molding back on, it wasn't kinked up too bad to notice.....it's all fixed now. :coolman:

What else am I going to find in the future, I'm just glad it was a simple fix that I didn't have to go to the dealer for. :puke:

Can anyone relate ?

This was the clearance issue I had with my door sills because the molding wasn't railed correctly: :nono: Related post

The aluminum door sills look great, and they look like they fit perfectly over the original sill, but I have one concern....."how thick are the new sills" because if they suppose to go directly over the original ones, I don't have much clearance there as is.

I checked the clearance out while in the car and, opening / closing the door to feel the clearance and I might have about a 1/8" gap if that much. :(

I bet there are at least 5 guys who work at STAP who are laughing their @$$3$ off right now. Your car wasn't made on April 1 by any chance, was it?

Best,

Dan

It was probably a good idea that I didn't go on the STAP tour.

The temptation to give them a piece of my mind might have been overpowering!

No April fools here, just piss-poor "Attention to Detail" management ! :fire:
My built date is in my signature, 8-23-02, Thanks.

Well...you may find some other goodies. I had a noise that could rarely be duplicated but very annoying. I had their shop foreman take the car home with him so he'd have more time to listen to it. He confirmed the noise. When he went to replace the body to frame bushing under the driver's feet he found the problem. An extra body bushing was between the frame and body. Luckily it didn't crush my brake lines. The my second free part was a complete of bolts to hold the seat to the floor. I'm on the look out for more freebies.

Gonzo, yes that kind of discovery is maddening, and shouldn't have been overlooked. Someone did though, it must be something that's hard to notice. Your dealership didn't notice it in the PDI, and you didn't notice it for 20 months either!
At least it's fixed now.

I've done more than my fair share of bemoaning Ford's recent quality problems, so I'll just say here that I feel your pain. Glad it was easy to fix, though.

Mine suffered early on from paint runs and peels, broken trunk button, cracked rim, loud mystery rattles, and loose electrical at ground 101. Dealership has been excellent in taking care of things, but it still is frustrating that these things went out the door at the factory.

I noticed yesterday while waxing the car that the lower rubber molding on the back window was down lower on the pass side then the driver side. Upon further inspection I noticed that the rubber was not pushed into the lower window channel, it was just hanging. I opened the trunk and pushed it back in, it when in easily but I guess I will have to keep my eye on it.

Just to let you guys know, I was at STAP and saw something I thought was funny. There was a blk MM coming down final assembly and it had the silver trim on the left side of the steering wheel and wood trim on the right side of the steering wheel. How can someone miss this? Wood in a MM?

Could this be the problem why our driver's door is out of alignment ???

I think that wood trim might look good in the car.

I'm right down the street from you (so to speak) and I was just curious.

Years ago a friend worked in a Chev dealership. He said they had a Camaro come in that had firebird trim and nameplate on one side. Made it all the way to the dealer like that!

Back before I owned my first Firebird, I was present for the delivery of a friend's brand new yellow 1988 IROC Camaro, built in Van Nuys CA. Beautiful car, all decked out in the factory skirts, albeit the unfortunate drivetrain spec'ed with the weak 305 TBI (throttle body injection) and 5-speed manual.

Yes, a gorgeous site it was indeed, we marvelled, as we walked around the car and soaked in the IROC medallion in the IROC-specific skirt on the passenger side.... and the "RS" medallion on the RS-specific skirt on the driver's side. After the initial panic wore off, my friend was partially calmed by the IROC badge on the passenger's side dash panel... and subsequently horrified yet again by the sight of the V6-specific steering wheel.

While I'm sure the California surfer dudes who assembled that car deserved a good thrashing for that mess of a car (we have many good stories about that beast and what problems it developed over the years), it's an unfortunate by-product of how assembly lines are managed. (my Norwood, Ohio-built '87 GTA, while adequately screwed together, has nonetheless a few assembly related issues that always make me shake my head and wonder "how in the world...") :nono:

I recently had the MM in for its 2nd oil change, was told by the mechanic that one of the brackets that holds the rear sway bar in place was never installed, just the rubber bushing was there.

I bought my Marauder from the Ford-Mercury Dealership in Jesup, they do good maintenance service so far. Thanks.
