As many of you might remember, I've had a intermittent no start problem for many years. I usually clean the terminals and that seemed to used to work but that seems less and less effective. I've took it in to many stealerships and repair shops and they can't find anything wrong. They have replaced the battery several times and it still happens. Might happen in a month, 6 months, or even as long as a year. Sometimes even after a short drive. Usually leaving me stuck somewhere and then AAA comes and somehow the car will just start when they arrive, go figure. Or they just replace the battery again and the car suddenly will start. Well, I got stuck at Wally World today and asked my wife to bring me my extra new battery but before she got there, I was able to start the car. When it wont start, I don't hear the fuel pump but the key will turn and nothing. Accessories will work. Lights on dash do come on but then door locks will lock and unlock with a frenzy and then radio will suddenly sometimes even come on out of the blue. I had just charged the battery to full a week before.
So I was thinking, could it be the ignition switch? I had a late 80s Tempo in the past that did something similar where you had to wait like 15 minutes after going somewhere before the car would start and it ended up being the ignition switch. A Shell gas station had replaced it back then and never had the problem again since in that car.
Is that something that could go bad on our panthers also?
I'm ready to throw parts at it since no one can seem to help me. Starter? Battery cable? Even when it is a rare occurrence I don't want to get stuck somewhere or have to sit a half hour for the car to somehow start again. Or play the call AAA again and then say sorry when they arrive, since the car eventually started.
Thoughts?
Some of my Nor Cal brothers remember that time it happened on the car parade. Only time it ever stalled like that but was the same not starting problem after the car died. Fortunately, I was able to get it started then and didn't have the problem the rest of the event.
