Hello,

Car ran great, went to an appointment, restarted perfectly 30 mins later, no CELs...then stopped at the YMCA, on the way out 5 mins later, = NO CRANK NO START. all engine lights came on, doors unlocked and locked...everything worked key on like usual....

I have a secondary push button start, back to the days when my PCM was out for repair, and the PATS would not allow the non - stock PCM to allow starting. I was always under the impression that the PATS only disabled starter/cranking ------ not ignition, fuel pump...etc

So, in a busy parking lot:

swapped out the PCM for an alternate PCM = no change
cranked the engine with my push button, cranked at high speed but wouldn't fire
checked the fuel pump, clicked on , scanner showed high kPa good pressure
cranked real fast like no spark
no fuses blown that I could see...
swapped relays no improvement
cleaned G101 ground from PCM to drivers fender

So, swapped out the ignition switch with a FLAPS aftermarket ignition switch ..still no crank, but smoke wisp in the area of the black ground wire...

Had it towed to the driveway. pouring rain today....but

Checked the original switch, seemed to check out OK in acc/run/start...etc...no driver's side cam cover abrasion, the obvious chafing known issues..

Looked underhood in the rain, nothing obvious.

Hmmm! this is a tough one.

Ignition switch at the connector: Ground at the switch checked out OK, I have an alternate PCM and matched key. I vaguely remember rapid flashing when it would not crank , odd, as opposed to the normal: usual 2 sec blink , then steady red 3 secs, then goes out. Maybe the PATS didn't see the key all of a sudden. But, when I ran the spare PCM I used the push button to start. Should have started on that.

I'd look at the starter braided wire coming out of brushes going to solenoid probably rotted off.

Thanks Eddie, that whole harness is 2 years old. As is the starter itself. But I'll check. Plus, the push button switch still makes the starter crank fine. Was raining all day yesterday, today it's nice outside so I can crawl underneath. etc.

looks like PATS Transceiver took a dump. Getting a PATS flashing "1-1" and no signal received DTC...swapped out different PCM and matching key and same DTC

Thought you had a no crank no start with both ignition & button. Curious as to what actual fix is because there is a member local to me who has a similar problem that we can't figure out .His car will crank & run with auxiliary button but will not crank with key.

Do you have a tune? If so have your tuner disable it unless you really want it? I disabled my old car 10 years ago after it failed to recognize a key and left me stranded. Good riddens.

FIXED, problem was a bad ignition immobilizer --part that fits on the ignition lock assembly - local Ford store had it in by lunch....$53.00

Codes were P1681 and P1000.

so odd part was/is --when I sent my dead PCM out back in 2019, bought a spare PCM and used the key that didnt match = no crank, but my push button bypassed that. Car fired up. With no signal at all, apparently it is more than a key mismatch the PCM wouldn't fire the coil packs. PCM needs some type of signal from the immobilizer ,even a mismatched signal. Posting all this here for future MM'ers....
