Fess up! I know Zack must have been involved somehow by the grill alone!

Just one question though - what were they proving?

That was my Trilogy #2 ride in those badgeless pics in the display area. Zack did a great job on my grill, and it gets complements to this day. If you look real close, the pics of the burnouts, the first car is the S55 car, the second car (w/badgeless grill!) is mine, what can I say, they twisted my arm! The best was them using it in the final group shot. From the left its Steve Babcocks S55, mine, and the blue test track Marauder. The ford photographer did a great job with the pics...

They used that LS for the "Race Across America". It is a "cannonball" type race. The LS had a 450hp 4.6 liter engine in it. It was a real fun time there. Got to see some stuff not out yet too.

Why do you call that the S-55 car...somewhat nestalgic? Was that the Trilogy car with the different lower front facia, that looks A OK. Where is the proving groun & what was the event, I didn't here about it. Once again The motor city is IT! Presuming the event was in Detroit.

I think 2Qwk is referring to this picture:

The S-55 IIRC was the 2002 Pre-production test mule wasn't it? looks like it was in the Detroit area.

Sweet pics man. Sweeeeet.

What's up with the "blue test track Marauder"? For some reason it looks like the front tire is smaller than stock and the back tire is taller/wider than stock? Also, it looks like someone jacked the center caps from the passenger side! :)

That thing looks sweet with a sunroof... Must... resist ... the ... temptation...

The S-55 Marauder was a concept vehicle put together for the SEMA show as I recall. It features the 4.6L two valve motor with a roots type supercharger under the hood. The interior is leather two tone combination with the traditional dark charcoal on the outer panels and a dark red on the seating panels, the steering wheel also sports this two tone leather look. Great looking car!!!!(but then again aren't all Marauders great looking?). Oh, the S-55 designation does go back to the 63 Marauder, it simply indicated the car featured bucket seats and a console in those days.

The event was indeed in the Detroit Metro area. It was in Dearborn at one of Fords test facilities. The Trilogy powered car you see is owned by Dave who is a private owner. His car was the first customer car to have the Trilogy blower installed. They used his car for the final burnout of the day and for pictures. The event was an event that the Crown Vic group got together and we were invited to attend. It was a lot of fun. A great start to what was a great MM four day weekend.

I can't find how far back S-55's go but I know they had a Monterey S-55 in 62 in both a hardtop or conv.and where available in 2dr and 4dr versions. S-55's had a different interior,( bucket seats, console with floor shift's, diff. door panels, exterior badges and came equipped with the Super Marauder engines in various versions of the 390, 406 and the 427 in late 63 model's.
Tried to get the purdue link from James Stanchfield's Monterey site but it wouldn't work here. If wanting to know more on the 62 test drive of an S-55 go over to the IMMC and click onto the Enthusiasts site and click onto the 64 Mercury Monterey site.

Great event and great pictures!

The Mercury "S" car series started in 1961 with the Comet S-22. As others have said, it was a bucket seat model. In 1962 and '63 there was a Comet S-22, Meteor S-33, and Monterey and Marauder S-55. There was even a 1963 Monterey S-55 4-door. Mercury dropped the "S" models in 1964 & '65 only to bring it back in 1966 & '67. The later models were called the Mercury S-55 (no Monterey) and the '67s are quite rare. 1963 is the only year they made a Marauder S-55. Steve Babcock told me the 2005 car would have been a Marauder S-55 with the 2-valve supercharged 4.6 as seen at the event.
