any common problems I should be looking for at delivery? Its not been a good week. I really don't need any surprises when I pick it up. Went to my third calling hours/funeral this week today. This one really hit home as my buddy was retired a hot 17 months...

Sorry to hear about the bad news. But, getting your car is good news, at least. Probably just want to look the paint over real close, as many people have had paint problems right from the factory. Other than that, I can't think of anything chronic to look for. Just enjoy your fine new ride!

I can think of a few.

1) You'll have to get rid of the license plate ads, license plate holders, and you'll have to use a hair dryer to get the dealer logo off the deck lid.

2) In some cases you'll have to rid yourself of the dealer logoed paper floor mats, dealer key chains, and business cards from sales people all over the car and in your owner's manual packet, glove box, pants pockets etc..

3) Depending on your dealer, you'll have to get them to leave you alone about buying a new car for a while.

4) You'll have to tell them you already HAVE an extended warranty. It's the only thing that will get them to shut up about it. Simply saying you don't want one does not work.

5) Most dealers have some sort of process where they are supposed to show you how everything in the car works. Skip this. Read the manual and consult owners here for more info. Dealers on this board notwithstanding, most dealers don't know jack-diddly-squat about this car.

6) Prepare yourself for lots of jealous looks as you drive off the lot. And for the next 6 hours straight since no one can go straight home after buying a MM.

and last but most importantly --

7) You'll need to free up some extra cash or credit space for the mods. the MODS!!!

Hope these nuggets are helpful.

sorry about your buddy, keep your chin up. I picked my new blk 04 up last week. The dealer went out of his way to make sure i was satisfied. I noticed a small scratch on the cover to the speedo. I stopped by the dealership to introduce myself to carfixer, who is a master tech there,(nice guy, and knows his stuff) and the salesman took my car and brought it back in ten minutes. He took the car to try to get the scratch out. Anyway, just look it over, and make sure you are satisfied, if not, im sure they will take care of any issues asap..good luck, and enjoy your new mm. What color did you get?..Sunroof?..Take care...Steve

I'm sorry to hear about your week, but you've got good people here to cheer you up. The paint is the main issue I've noticed, but also be on the lookout for rogue rubber bands in every place you could dream of one showing up. Mine had an extra rivet that must have fallen out of the gun in the front passenger door, and a lazy rear window actuator, but I don't think either is typical. My dealer (West Point in Houston, TX) went out of their way to take care of me, so Just give it a good once over, and enjoy your new car! I'd suggest a nice extended drive to clear your head, and get to know your car. You're going to love it!

Thanks folks for the kind words. The dealer assures me the paint is ok. They located me a DTR MM in Ravena, NY. When they brought the car back to Oneida the paint was really bad, to the point that they rejected the vehicle and refused to sell it to me. They put that dealer on the S$#t list for no future trades. They then located me another DTR MM in Plattsburg, 4+ hrs away. It was supposed to arrive last night. Only hitch is I now have to pay for a trunk mounted CD changer that I didn't want/need. They have really gone above and beyond to make me happy. Sounds like I will have a rather unique vehicle in my area since there were only 3 DTR MM's in all of upstate NY. The other one is in Buffalo. I just remembered that my custom shop pistol is waiting for at the Dan Wesson factory. Maybe this week is starting to look better

I did get a bit of useful info at delivery. My salesman pointed out the air suspension "On-Off" switch in the trunk in case I needed to ever jack up the car to "Turn Off the Suspension" switch. I did find this to be a pretty useful tip ... considering I would have probably never found it in the manual and would have assumed that it was used for the CD changer (kinda close to it anyway).
Other than that .... duhtroll's tips are on the money.

tstrat99, thanks for the tip man. I had no idea there was such a thing. Is the operation of the air suspension explained in the manual?

I dunno about the manual, but it seems EVERY PAGE in the shop manual has a warning about turning off the air suspension before hoisting or jacking the car.

I bought mine used and the in trunk CD player was not on the options list that the dealer posted. So, I had no idea it was there until about a month later, I spotted something with a sliding door in the trunk, pressed the button and "Look here! A CD magazine holder. I wonder..." and I've been filling it with CDs and playing it every day. The CD player is worth it.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Theres a good chance you will have your subwoofer rattle when you crank it up but the fix is here on the website and with mine the compresser on the air will "chirp" when it kicks on(theres info about that here also)Congrats I have had mine for a month now and those are my minor Problems.

She is absolutely beautiful!!!:D :D :D The wife fell in love with it immediately. She is out showing it off to her family now. The right rear door molding was broken, they had already ordered a new part before I even came in. It was the hit of the dealership. Everyone had to look at it. From the owner to the cleaning staff (large dealership, 4 brands). Hack Goby, you are right about the subwoofer. I'll have to find that post. I'm in love  , I might even sleep in her tonight  ....

Just brought my MM home today too. Black/Light Flint made 05/04 :)

Not off to a smooth start though. First thing wrong was a big scratch on the rear bumper where the dealer said it was bumped with a machine and said they will fix it when I bring the car back in a couple days.

Then I took a test drive and noticed the brakes were quite soft (was the first time I ever drove one). It takes a lot of force on the pedal to completely stop and even slow the car. Not sure if I'm just used to stickier brakes but I'm still going to have the dealer check them while it's in for the bumper.

Of course minor issues and I just wanted to get the MM off the lot. So I drive a little and turn up the radio and I guess I'm not special or lucky, the speaker vibration is there. Another thing to put on the list to fix. Hopefully the dealer will be good about it all.

Other than that it's been a nice ride for the day so far.

I'd definitely say your brakes are something that need to be looked at. Mine are very solid and strong. Not after-market strong, but certainly light years better than the ones on my dad's '93 Crown Vic LX. Perhaps they need to be bled?

Congrats on the new car. Enjoy!

Yea, I'd say theres something wrong with the brakes. Mine are fine. Like 4th horseman said not aftermarket strong but they'll do the job. I had aftermarkets on my ZX3 and it would stop on a dime. Hows the dusting with the factory brakes? The Focus OEMs were terrible. I switched out to Mintex and it went away and stopped much better too. I'll have to check with Batinc and see if they have Mintex pads for the MM. Man I wish this car had a 6 spd MTX :depress: , that would bring it to life. 1st ATX I've owned in a long, long time. At least its not making all the tranny noises that our Wimpalas at work make. Now, if I can take one of the upper management types for a ride in the MM, maybe they'll go back to Crown Vics. I doubt it though, GM's giving away the Wimpalas almost at cost. Guess they figure they'll make it up in service/repairs. Great winter car though.
Well, back to the MM, I really like the sound system, except the sub vibration. I doubt I'll be going aftermarket speakers. Anyone know what speakers are in the MM ? Time to sign off for the night. I forgot to take my title in when I picked it up. So I have to run up to the dealership in the am. Maybe I didn't really forget it,

J/K, but I feel that way sometimes when the leather smells so new and clean!

Looking up the symptoms of brakes that need to bled, seems like that could be it. Now I hope this isn't a dumb question but is there any harm of me driving it around for the next couple days if they do need to be bled. I can't further damage the brakes or they won't just completely give out on me I'd hope?

I don't think there's any risk of damage. Your brakes will just feel soft and spongey and require more pedal than they should until they're bled properly. I'm just guessing on this diagnosis, though. Defintely have the service center of your choice diagnose the problem.
