I noticed the normal play in the rear axles due to OEM c- clips. Under what types of driving does one change the set up to c-clip eliminators and what ones are the recommended ? TKS

If you still have OEM Trac Loc then you can reshim the clutches to get rid of most of the endplay.

I have noticed even new clutch packs are very thin. If one did rebuild the traction lock could a few old clutch packs be used to take up some extra axle play or is that not advised ?

I put a brand new Ford LSD (Advertised as for the GT500s) in my car and the axles had virtually zero endplay once everything was back together. The Wilwood/TCE BBK I bought came with thicker C clips but everything was so tight I barely got the factory ones in.
C clip eliminator kits always end with leaking axles on the street, not worth the effort for a street car.
Why are you concerned with taking up the slop? it's not hurting anything.

People usually install C-clip eliminators for the drag strip, certain classes require it. One workaround is to have 9" ford ends welded onto the 8.8" axle tubes.
