So I usually don't use my powerpoint often, but I figured I would start using it. Well, it lights up my charger but it's not enough power to charge my cell phone as my cell phone won't register it. I put my little voltmeter thing in there and it won't show a reading just flickering jiberish symbols from the display as apparently not able to form any numbers for volts. So probably not just a fuse, right? Maybe bad wiring?

If I put everything in my cigarette lighter instead, everything is normal and the external voltmeter will read volts and my cell phone will charge. So my charging cable ect are working and work in my other car.

OK, so I checked the fuse and the fuse is good.

When I plug in my voltmeter USB thing, it was lighting up but read 88.8V which is just all the characters. But now that I kept trying to make sure it was in the plug good, now it won't light up and won't display any volt characters.

It's supposed to look like this and this is when I plug it into the cigarette lighter.

i have the same one in my car, works great. I suggest replacing the 12 volt socket, sometimes they are just dirty old and plain just dont work well... ive had that issue with all those even GM ones.

How do you access the socket and replace it?

with force, lift the cubby out and then you gain access to it.

!!!!!!!!!!!!DO NOT DO THIS WITH POWER TO THE POWERPOINT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try removing the fuse and cleaning the powerpoint with some fine steel wool. After cleaning make sure there are no errant pieces of steel wool left in the socket.

Tried the steel whool and still nothing. So now looking at replacing the powerpoint. However, I tried yanking the cubby out but one clip broke. Before I keep trying, is there a better way to get the cubby out without breaking the clips? Maybe a flathead screwdriver in the edges if they need to be pinched in? I noticed a number of other hairline cracks at different places so don't want to damage the cubby more than it already is.

ok, I got the cubby out. Broke a number of the tabs but it's mostly still in good shape. Unplugged the powerpoint. But the powerpoint itself seems to be held in by a black ring in the underside. How does that get removed so that the powerpoint will come out the top? I tried rotating it but it doesn't seem to rotate much.

OK, so I got the powerpoint out. The Ford replacement the stealership gave me isn't exactly like the original because it doesn't have the black ring part but I assume they probably superseeded with one that will work with additional models. So let's see if the powerpoint works once I get everything back together. Then I will be happy at myself for fixing this myself. :-)

Good news is I got everything back together and the powerpoint works good now. However, the black ring part does need to be transferred over to the new powerpoint which is another pain point. Otherwise, it will slip right through the hole on the cubby. I broke a clip off of the black ring trying to figure out how to get it off the old powerpoint to transfer over so my new powerpoint is loose which is a minor inconvenience. So if anyone comes across one during a part out that I can buy, please let me know.
