View Full Version : Dumb mistake on my part, window won't close, not on track

Recap: Installed weatherflectors on windows. Right passenger weatherflector got loose years ago, and my friend "fixed it" by adding some adhesive to the top of the weatherflector blade to secure it. Not epoxy, just general goo stuff, can't remember the name. Worked great, and the first time I rolled down the window a tiny sliver of the top of the window was torn off, so not so great. The window has worked mostly fine for the last 7-8 years, but occasionally will "pop" and stick before coming down. I've tried to get all the old adhesive out of the window channel, and the offending weatherflector blade was replaced a long time ago.

Yesterday the window rolled down, but now won't roll up. I can hear the motor going, but up or down the window sags down. I managed to drag it up into place with a suction cup to keep the rain out. So, what damage did I do? My guess is that the top of the window sticking briefly broke the connection to the carrier / window channel lift, whatever you want to call it as it pulled down, and met resistance. I've had the door panels off twice to repair the window lock lifts (found the door channel filled with old rivets and garbage: "At Ford, Quality is Job #1!), but have no experience with the windows. Hopefully this won't be too hard to fix.

Thanks for any info!

You probably need the whole kit. You can find an aftermarket one on ebay. It is not too difficult. Maybe an hour and a half with the right tools.

“Whole kit? “ What kit? And what procedure? And what special tools? I have pretty much every tool needed I’m sure. I frankly can’t imagine anything inside the door taking 90 minutes.

This has to be the same mechanism on every Crown Vic and Grand Marquis made, so whatever parts I need have to be pretty much available anywhere I would think? I appreciate the advice, but I have to know what to ask for to buy it. Thanks.
