Didn't know they employ these in Canada. Whats the best way to get at it? A gear head friend looked at it and said cup filter wrench. I pulled the air intake hose from the MAFS to the TB, but still couldn't get it loose. Atleast I got the oil out. Hand looks like it went through a meat grinder.

yup,... whatever happened to "hand tight and 1/4 turn"?

If you turn the wheels all the way to the left, it'll give you a little more room to work.

I prefer using a strap wrench,... but,.. if the filter is extremely mangled,.. I've used a long screwdriver. Punch all the way through it and turn. Careful though,... it's still a pain!

Your gear-head friend is right...I got a cup wrench at AutoZone for about $3 that allows you to use a 3/8" ratchet handle and it works like a charm...from underneath, just move the connection to the steering rack out of the way (it swivels) and the wrench fits in there fine...you DO have to kind of finesse the filter to get it out without spilling oil all over everything, though...

I did ONE Oil Change on my MM @ 1200 miles with the stock location. What a '****' PITA!!
I immediately installed a Remote Oil Filter Set-up from Canton Products.WOW, What a Difference!! Oil Filter is now mounted on front frame rail just below
the air filter assembly. No More Bloody Knuckles , Oil EVERYWHERE and accompanying 4 letter words.

will the remote filter work as good as the factory location? How much for the set up , & where did you buy it . How long & hard to install?

Have you tried this. Break down the oil filter box, place it under the filter. Use a cup adapter to loosen the filter. The oil will flow into the drain pan. All this is accomplished from the top, with no part removal.

I used Canton Part #CAN-22-598 90 degree Block Adapter @ $59.99, plus the Billet Filter Mount #CAN-22-625 @ $73.99. (You could also use the Aluminum Filter Mount #CAN-22-610.) I used the 4 Port Billet Filter mount because I installed a Canton 1 Qt. AccuSump which will hold 1 Qt. of Oil under full pressure for cold start ups. My MM is not a daily driver and will sit for 1-2 weeks between use, so I don't like to hear everything clatter when I start it up. You will also need fittings and hoses to connect the two Canton Parts together. I used Aeroquip fittings and black braided Aeroquip flex hose. You will need: four (4) #FCE2008; -08 to 1/2" male pipe fittings, one (1) #FCE1013; -08 straight to 1/2" male pipe fitting, two (2) #FCE2038; 90 degree -08 to 1/2" male pipe fittings, one (1) #FBM4063; 180 degree -08 to 1/2" male pipe fitting, and the AQP hose. I bought the Canton stuff from Lane Automotive Supplies ph#(269) 463- 4113. I bought all the Aeroquip stuff from Summit Racing. Check out the Canton Website at www.cantonracingproducts.com. The Aeroquip website is www.aeroquip.com , they have lots of choices in the fittings... i.e. anodized red, blue, black, nickel, etc.

Sorry for now... I'm still living in the 50's and using Kodak Film...some day I'll join the modern age and buy a digital camera. I'll try to borrow my brother's digital camera and take a slew of photos of Remote Oil System.

If you replace your filter with a K&N HP-2010 Oil Filter,
You benefit from the extra high flow capacity it has,
the anti-drainback valve inside,
as well as the 1" nut welded to the end of the filter housing !

Extremely better filtering and easier servicing !!!

MENINBLK has the best idea if you don't go remote, in the meantime you can use a BFpair of channelocks to get 'em off with.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give it another try. If I still can't get it off I'll just let the filter wait for the 3k free change at the dealership.

The filters are installed dry at the factory (no oil on the gasket). At least that was how it was done a few years ago. I think it has to do with safety and contamination. It may be considered a safety risk to have oil sitting around (that's a stretch). But, more likely, it may be that open oil can easily get dirt in it which will be passed to the gasket and, therefore, cause leaks or worse problems. I had the same luck with my first oil change. But, since then, no problems since the gasket has been oiled everytime.

Sounds like a good plan, rayjay...
