About my nitrogen filled tires:mad:
<SIGH>
Saturday, after the transmitters are attached to my wheels, I am taking my car to Butler Tire, where they will do a high speed (as in 130 mph) balance, AND replace the air in the tires with 98% pure nitrogen. According to their hand out, nitrogen will prevent water vapor from attacking the wheels, not bleed out through the rubber in the tires (or the valve stem) like oxygen does, and not oxidize the inside of the tires like oxygen does. They claim an increase in tire life, and a less often need to check tire pressures (which is what Todd was asking about).
Course, I will WEAR OUT the tires long before age becomes an issue, considering these BFG's are good for 20K max.
Now, this could be comeplete horse hockey, but they only charge $30 for the all four wheels, and they will add nitrogen free for the life of the tires. Even if you have to add air to the tires, you take it back, they replace the gas in the tire with another shot of 98% pure nitrogen. Hey, I've spilled $30 on the bar on a good night, so I'm doing it, even if it's just for the conversation factor.
So much for MY secret project for the breakfast :bounce:

Good thought but the molecules are smaller so it will leak out too quick. Now what about putting argon in the rears to increase weight, possibly improving traction?

Sounds like a lot of hot air coming from the South?

Yep, and NASCAR/Formula 1. And there's a company offering a system for heavy trucks and 18 wheelers.
Take a gander at this link: http://www.tirelast.com/id15.html
and this one about NASCAR tires: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/nascar5.htm
and this one: http://www.irco.com/pressroom/newsatir/is/58711.html
and lastly this one: http://www.aftermarketbusiness.com/aftermarketbusiness/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=101650
Sounds to me like a good idea.

Donny, IFyou can get all four tires/wheels high-speed balanced and fill them with nitrogen for $30.00, you are the MAN. I paid more than that for the balancing from Butler. Ya might wanna check your prices before they start the work so ya won't be surprised. Just a FYI!! :bows:

No, the nitrogen is $30 for the four wheels. They charged me $25 each wheel for the balance, at the Marietta Store, last time I was there. So, I'll pay $50 for the balance (only the fronts because Jeff is doing the rears), and $30 for the nirtogen fill.

You'd have to purge out the oxygen with the fill, which I guess the cart would do, since it does it on whatever you are filling up, right?
Shoot, a high ticket place like Butler charges only $30 for all tires (including the spare, if I'm not mistaken), so why risk getting yelled at for using Govt or contractor resources?

That's better. I was ready to go to Butler and ask for a refund!!
It will be interesting to see how the nitrogen filled tires work. When I was at the Boeing Museum in Seattle I noticed the SR-71 had nitrogen filled tires but the reason for that was the high altitude. You aren't planning something "out of this world" are you? Anything to beat Todd? :bows:
