I came home for a late lunch today and what was on my doorstep? My OEM spoiler thanks to UPS.
After work I went to the local stealer and had an estimate done. I really want the look of a badgeless trunk so I asked for an estimate to paint and put the spoiler on and then a 2nd estimate to take the emblem off, fill the holes, paint and attach the spoiler and paint the whole trunk lid. They quoted $350 to paint the spoiler and attach it and another $200 to do the whole lid... :bs:
I headed out to my favorite repair shop....known the guy for years. He does excellent work and has fixed my squad car 3x for deer hits :o . He also did the custom hood on my 99 SHO....he looked things over and came up with $140 to paint and attach the spoiler and $310 to do the whole thing....paint the spoiler, attach it, fill the rear badge holes and paint the trunk lid...
Doesn't sound too bad...eh?
Had to share....car's starting to come together :D

That's a good price. I paid $150 to paint and install.

FiveO:
Doesn't the factory offer a spoiler? Is the OEM product better quality?
Thanks for any info.

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer
In other words, an OEM spoiler is a Ford spoiler, the same as factory. These are sold by Ford as a dealer installed item, or sold over the parts counters for buyers to install or have installed by someone.
The OEM spoiler is a quality part. It is offered painted or primered. The painted version tends to get damaged in shipping, so some (like me) opt to buy the primered version and have it painted to match the car. This is a bit more expensive than buying the painted spoiler, even though the primered spoiler costs less, because you have to add the cost of painting to the part cost.

I actually knew that at one time! Not my best day. :stupid: I don't know, I saw "OEM" and was thinking "aftermarket".
Two things: I wouldn't mind doing that (depending upon the price of the part; would Ford install it?), but I kinda like the look of the standard rear deck. I'm trying to get a mental image of it; obviously you must like the looks of it? Or is it just for functionality? I'm not sure I would ever get going fast enough for it to make a difference.
Secondly, if you don't mind my asking, what does it cost from the factory, and is there a factory site were you can order stuff, or do you have to go thru the dealer?
Thanks very much for any info.
Regards,
Norm

I got my OEM spoiler online for about $195 shipped. What I should have done is gone through Ray...AKA: TheDealer here on MM.net. Would have been a bit cheaper. Get ahold of him. It will come primed and ready to paint. Shop around and it should be like $150 painted and installed.
I made a decision last night....I'm going to keep the rear badge and go with the godshead conversion. I got 4 center caps in the mail yesterday from a fellow MM.net member and I'll use the other $200 to install some of these other things that are starting to pile up.
Ordered an Alpine 12 disc changer for the trunk, Art Carr tranny pan arrived, Kooks are on their way...G-Timer in the dash, Autostart next week, badgeless grill....definitly going naked up front.
I'll definitely post pics though...

This is what the Spoiler looks like:

And as far as if the dealer would install it, yes I'm sure most would be able to do the job. But I'm not sure I would trust them with it. As most of us have found out most dealers dont know what a Marauder really is. To answer you question about performance of the spoiler, there really isn't any, its just for looks. And if you are interested other members have installed a Avalon spoiler insted. My suggestion to you is look through the gallery and see all the stuff people have done, and get out to a local meet if you can.

I don't mind the front grill badge at all, but think the rear looks alot better without anything there. I think if I do get the spoiler I'll get it painted, as if should exactly match the factory black paint, correct? Then I just get my body shop to install it, and then remove the back badge and fill and paint the holes. Should be cheaper than having to paint the whole spoiler, the only question is will it look as good?
With regards to the Godshead conversion, where do you get the new badges? Just curious...
Thanks,
Norm
