I've got 35,400 miles on my 03 Marauder. I talked my dealer down to $1595 for the ford esp premium extended warranty for 6 years/100,000 miles. Its still alot of $ to add on to what this car has already cost me. But I've recently refincanced the car over another 4 years so I'm going to keep it till it dies. I guess I'm looking for someone to talk me out of the extended warranty. Anybody have any experience or comments?

I also purchased the extended warranty when I purchased my car. I am beginning to think I wasted my money.

By the time my car is older than 3 years the warranty won't be valid anyway (if things go right) as there will be to many mods to have a valid :banana2: warranty.

Not true. Repairs are very costly nowadays, and even a modded car can have warranty issues that are not invalidated by the mods. One or two of them being paid for under warranty can easily pay for the cost of the ESP purchase.

Besides, the warranty act reads that they have to prove that the mods had something to do with failure of the component(s) in question in order to deny warranty coverage.

I just had this talk with our service manager at our local LM dealer. I pay their inflated prices, they stop hassling me about my mods every chance they get.

Example - I sprayed my tail lenses with Nite Shades. 8 months later the trim comes loose from one of them. They tell me it won't be covered under warranty because I modified them. :shake: We're trying to eliminate the discussions that are insults to my intelligence.

Thanks,

Experience with warranty.....car overheated in February. Thermostat stuck closed. Repaired for the $50 deductible. Car had about 45K on it. Along came April and May. The car started to miss like it had a bad valve. Took it to the dealer, they found bad valves in #4 and hot spots in #8. The engine was replaced, along with my windshield that got broken while in their care. Total cost to me, $50 deductible. The car had 53K on it. Took the dealer 22 days to get the work done, most of the time was waiting for the engine to arrive. Driving that Taurus for those 22 days sucked, but it was free. Thanks Extended warranty!

The additional damage was caused by the poor water flow around the above mentioned cylinders. Otherwise, there might not have ben any damage at all, as I trucked the car on a flat bed to the dealer before I "Thought" any damage was done. If you don't want to spend the money then don't. Keep in mind your looking at about $6-7K for an engine replacement for your deductible and the initial cost of the warranty.....

go with the extended warranty,, AND make them give you the disappearing deductable at no charge, that eliminates the deductable as long as you have it serviced where you bought the warranty

Just make sure it's a Ford ESP extended warranty. The others aren't worth the paper they are written on!!!!! Don't care what the person selling it says. The only reason they are trying to get you to buy it is because they make more money on the off brand warranties. Don't listen to them, insist on a Ford ESP. I could tell you hours of horror stories with other warranties. RAY

I have come out ahead on most Ford ESP on most Ford vehciles. Overall I am way ahead. :)

I have been in the insurance bus 23 years, I would only buy Ford ESP, I have seen warranty after warranty company go bust, inlcuding subsidiaries of name brand companies.

If that is for PremiumCare, then you are stealing it. It is worth every penny. If you choose to have a deductible, whichever the amount, then make out the "laundry list"

Just my .02 and then some..

Before you sign on the dotted line, call these (http://www.fordwarrantycentral.com/) people. I just bought a premium care 6/75 policy for $1035, no tax.
BTW, I am a tech that does all the work on my own car and still bought the warranty. Get it, it's worth it.

I tried to get a quote and it won't accept the Marauder VIN.
I guess I'll have to call them direct.
I'm looking for the 6/100 plan.

I am a Ford tech, and I agree 100% with THE DEALER, when he says make sure it is a Ford warranty. There have been so many times I had to wait for authorization from outside warranty companies that want to send an adjuster down. They even authorized a used engine for a customer's car. By sticking with Ford , it is definately a faster process.

Here is another link to a Ford ESP site( I have never used this site, I am only providing the link for reference.) It seems they can give you a quote, maybe you can use it to haggle the dealer down.

Another advantage of the Extended warranty is that you are much less likely to be "bilked" for non needed items.

Without a warranty, a repair center may try to get you to pay for uneeded repairs or once the car is in the shop for a legit repair they tell you that they found other problems that also need to be fixed.

One benefit I had with my extended warranty is a rental.

My dealer let me know that they don't give loaner cars for warranty repair for Mercurys only for Lincolns. (Why I outta...)

Anyway my extended warranty covered so much money per day for the rental. So I didn't get stuck with the entire rental.

My repair dealer, Hansel FLM in Santa Rosa, CA, provided a loaner car for the duration of warranty repairs.

Thanks and Best Regards,

My local LM dealer quoted over $1500 for the 6/75k ESP. I'm glad to hear other places I can go for a Ford ESP quote. This site rocks again!

I don’t care what it cost it is worth it. All the trouble I’ve had with my car, and it has been plenty, has been non engine issues. If I didn’t have the warranty I would be screwed. I made a big mistake when I bought my car I negotiated and got 14,000 miles added to my warranty but didn’t realize it wasn’t from ford. I just renewed it to 7 years 97, 000 miles and I paid $1500 and tickled pink because I thought with my high miles I wouldn’t be able to get any extended warranty. I have had several claims in the 36,000 to current 48,000 and though I had to wait for approval all the claims have been have been covered just like it was a ford policy. I asked my tech if thought I should renew with this current company and he said yes. That's good enough for me.

My advice is no matter how modified your car is if you plan on keeping it get the extended warranty. The only bad that can come out of it are that you have no problems with your car and that’s not a bad thing. Judging on ford’s history you know you going to issues. Let them pay for it.
