Spent the morning installing the new bling bling headunit. Sold the AVH-P6500DVD to a co-worker and installed my new AVIC-N1 (http://www.avic-n1.com/) into the beast...
Not enjoying the way my 6500 fit in the upper radio mount, I decided to relocate the A/C controls up to where the factory stereo usually sits and install the avic where the AC controls were... I also have the Voice Kit, so all I have to do is say "Go to Work" and blammo, the unit automatically routes me to work, or to the grocery store, bank, wherever. Need gas? Just say "Gas Station" and blammo, a few dozen closest gas stations pop on screen. Very cool.
I found out if you take apart enough of your dash, you can re-route the A/C wiring harness up to where the stereo usually is without any issue. I didn't have to lengthen any wires or anything.
It looks TIGHT... Very cool and functional. The Navigation features on the AVIC are AWESOME.

dude, nice!
I've been thinking about replacing my Street Pilot 3. What that set ya back?
I noticed the temp,.. it was almost as hot down in Killeen today. I burnt my finger while rolling down my windows after work. The button was that hot!
PS- how 'bout a few more pics?

It retails for $2k, but can be had brand new on Ebay for about $1400 or so.
I got $600 for my 6500, so set me back about 800. Worth the money, as adding the nav to my 6500 would've cost me just as much...

aye carumba! :bandit:
I'd be lucky to get $400 for my SP3... $1K to go! damn,.. I'm gonna have to get a part time job to support my Marauder habit! :pimp:
Too bad all was lost in my spaceship when I crashed.
Looks like your off to a good start!

What about the fit didn't you like?
I've been driving a cadilac STS with a navigation screen in about the same spot as yours for the last 3 days and nearly killed myself more than 6 times. That position is way to low for me. I kept looking down as I was driving.
My aunt has her nav' screen sitting right on top of the dash and though it definitly sticks out you can look at the screen and keep your eyes on the road. That means a lot to me.
Please let me know beacause I love your system and would definitly take the dive if it fit in the stereo mounts.

Yes, it'll fit up top, but barely. The screen has to be angled all the way forward as the deck doesn't sit level in the opening. That's why I moved mine down to where the A/C controls are...
As for eye's on the road, The Avic-N1 is voice guided and does that VERY well, very little cause to look at it while driving unless you're sitting at a light or something...

Sounds great. Very nice install.

Do you usually forget the way?
Too bad it didn't just drive you there after saying "Go to work" :)

Hmph... The fact that I already know where I'm going isn't good enough. I need to dink around with electronics to be SURE I know where I'm going...
Uh...Yeah... That's it. ;)
