In case anyone is interrested, I was able to successfully adapt the radio controls on the steering wheel to control an after market head unit. I pulled the Nakamichi out of my T-bird and with the PAC SWI-X it was just 3 wires to connect to use the wheel remote, a real simple install. Crutchfield sells the SWI-X for $70 and if anyone is interrested I can explain the install and show you some pictures of how it is done.

Here is the link for the adapter: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-doftZMF7Ytr/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?s=0&cc=01&i=127SWIX&g=118900&search=pac

Cool, I may be dropping you a line (if I can find some money).

The PAC SWI-X is correct for our MM. The flasher can be stealthed into the front of the overhead console. Works well! I have not found an interface to use the factory changer with an aftermarket head unit.

My original plan was to use the overhead console, but then I would have to run a lot more wire. I figured the IR emitter was not too ugly so just kept it all in the dash.

I do not know of any head unit that will control the factory changer, but you can certainly add any aftermarket one to any head unit. The thing I like about my Nakamichi is it's half the size of the stock radio and has a 6 disk changer built in.

Will Do. I took pictures for just such an adventure. That's mostly hat my site is for, but more for the T-Bird. I'll have one up shortly.
