View Full Version : Mezeire Pump - Keeping an eye on temps

One of the objections some people have to switching to the Mezeire pump is not knowing there's a problem until you see the temp gauge rising. Dennis addressed this by including an LED, though it wasn't clear to me how to wire it in (as a continuity light, i.e. when it's on you know the pump is getting electricity?, or as a warning that there's no power?). What I opted to do was install a water temp gauge (as recommended by the electrical guru at Team Ford, Jason Adams), which will provide a much more accurate reading and give me an early warning that something is amiss, even if electricity is still being supplied to the pump. Say the impeller is not turning as fast as it should due to a bad bearing or something binding, or air in the system. So far, it's been great! On WOT runs you can actually watch the temp rise, then let off and watch it drop.. and the gauge on the dash barely moves if it all.

Spill it Donny, where did you get the gauges, how much, easy to install? They can be ordered from Nordskog's web site, but Summit Racing sells them $10 cheaper.
Summit prices:
NRD-M9013G Digital Water Temp $59.88 (replace the "G" with "A" for amber, or "R" for red)
NRD-S8013 Temperature Sender (Kit will come with brass adapters)
A new wire will need to be run to the sending unit. My tech, Jason Adams of Team Ford, moved the OEM sending unit and put the new sending unit where the OEM unit was. The OEM sending unit was retained so the water temp gauge in the dash would still work. Installation is no harder than any other similar gauge.
Be advised there are less expensive gauges, but Nordskogs are of high quality. Dakota Digital also makes a water temp gauge, though they are higher priced and will be teal (a blue-green) color. Also DD's digits are smaller.

Very cool, Donny. I'll be interested in how the pump is doing in 6 months. I like where you placed the cigarette lighter!

You may want to pick up a can of Ford paint to paint the ring so it matches the interior. Depending on what you have (charcoal or light flint) you can get it from your Ford or L/M dealer, or from TheDealer here on MM.net. It's $8.83 (iirc) from Ray, plus shipping.

Jason told me today there is a brass plug on the left side of the block accessable from underneath when the car is on a rack. He removed this plug and put the OEM sender there.
He will be on vacation starting on July 24, but I'm sure he would be happy to give you more information about this when he returns. PM me and I'll give you his number.
