The owner financed for 36 months, 35 at $45 a month, the last payment was $392.44. The car price was $5004.60, he put $153.84 cash down and was given $2033.77 for a 56 Chevy Pickup and a 66 Mercury 4 door (this transaction was in 1968, so the Merc was only 2 years old). After trade in he financed $3366.44.

Those odd numbers suggest to me he was a payment buyer. My guess is the Merc dealer made out pretty good on this deal.

Look at the seller's other offering, a 1966 VW Vanagon camper.

Here is a pic of a 1966 Vanagon:

Why did the previous owner shave off the VW emblem?

The seller says "no rust" but if you look at the side profile pics, you can see bondo. And not very well done bondo, either.

The whole nose is plastic, can't see the sides but I can imagine it's just as horrible. One of those in good shape brings some good dough for what they are.

I just bought it for $6550.00 and it will cost about $1000 to ship it to California!

No question about this blowing the doors off an Impala SS:banana2: :banana2: :banana2:

Any suggestions on shipping?

Thanks,

David

Nice job David!!! I have a great transportation company if you need it. Feel free to call me at (914) 582-6262 if you want. Or, you can just sell the car to me and I will deal with the shipping issues.....

Color me jealous.

I will call you to find out more about shipping options. I want to see what I am quoted from the seller's recommended company and how they take care of it.

I don't want it to arrive dirty with road grime on it.

Thanks,

David

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10137Thanks 5-0. Hawaii Five O was my favorite show as a child. I loved those big black Mercs.!

Now I have one worthy of Steve McGarret! Not quite the same, but it will do.

And, I know this will blow the doors off a 92-96 SS stock!

It will look great with the tires I'm going to put on those rims!

Good handle!

Best Regards,

David

This company has been around a long time and has a great reputation. They transported my grandfather's 1927 Chandler from Erie PA to our house in Missouri back in 1972.

David - Congrats and good luck. One fine looking ride. Enjoy. :)Thanks! I always wanted one of these! I have about 6 more cars to go until I have all of my ' dream' cars. This was one of them. I'm Going to run out of room soon so I'll be selling one before my next purchase! I am going to have to move somewhere out SouthEast so that I can afford enough space for my toys!

I am thinking about how it would look with some 2003-04 MM wheels and tires?

Does anyone know if they would fit?

Best Regards,

David

Congratulations on the Marauder Dave ! I don't think the offset on the newer wheels would work, and they probably wouldn't look right, now some Torq-Thrusts ll 's would..

Did you go inspect the car before purchase.. Did you pay sale tax or do you do that later?

Having purchased my MM outsate I will say that sales tax is added when the car is registered in the state you live in and register it in.

Just my experience.

Thanks for your comments!

Shipping was $1300 through DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers).

I am going to register it and pay the tax tomorrow afternoon.

Then it's off to a local tire store for some 60 Series Dunlop GT Qualifiers.

This will be a good opportunity to inspect underneath while it's up on the rack.

I am also planning on adding sway bars and heavy duty shocks. These older cars were not made for handling. If anyone has any suggestions or experience with these or similar cars, please let me know what you think.

I am going to look for the parts to add power windows and locks from another 1969 or 1970 X-100. It will probably take awhile to get these parts. If it doesn't have a tilt steering wheel, then I am going to look for one of those too.

If any of you run across these parts, please keep me in mind.

Thanks and Best Regards,

David

Look it over real good before you sign off for any damage that may have been done while shipping, and look underneath it too.
I had mine shipped from Colorado and it suffered rocker and lower door damage, the rear shock lower stud had hung-up on the ramp and threw it into the side rail.
