Having been involved many times, over the years, in new product justification, I fearless predict that the DOHC V8 will show up again (soon, I hope) in the panther chassis.
Ford has spent the money to engineer it in (cooling, air cleaner system, transmission calibration, etc.) and to get it EPA certified (no small piece of change). I can't believe that they won't reuse this engineering (and drivetrain) in one or more of the following:
Ford police intercepter
Ford LS Sport
Mercury LSE
Without this option, they will (in a year or two) lose significant patrol car business to the 300 and Magnum.
What do you all think???

The EPA certification is why we have no 2005 Marauder, how do I know this?
Steve Babcock told me so.He should know he is the "father" of the Marauder.
The panther platform is also scheduled for a major redo.
My guess is look for the new Mustang,type,3 valve engine before another 4 valve.

Your reasoning is quite logical and that is exactly why I don't think it will happen. I live in Dearborn, MI about 2 miles from Triology and in the left aorta of Ford Country. There are many, far too many, "engineers" I have spoken with that have not a clue as to what it means to drive a car. They are great at adding cup holders, de-contenting a vehicle to save a few bucks or designing bland FWD go carts that can't get out of their own way.
Ford has bled every possible penny out of the Panther platform. Chrysler's introduction of the 300 C & Dodge Magnum came at a perfect time- just when Elena is killing off the only real car left in the Mercury line-up. They cut a billion out of the development of the new 'Stang and while it may have some HP and even torque I wonder how the drivetrain and the rest of the pieces will hold up in the long term.

My department...only 20 sworn is looking at the Magnum for squad cars the next few years....
I'd agree that Ford will bring it back if sales start hurting.
Most of Fords profits from the CV's come from repairs.

I think something will happen. Question is when.
The Magnum may become available to Police with a HEMI, but the design of the Magnum may will prove to be wrong for Police work. Same with a sedan based on the 300.
A couple of years back Ford produced a Police Interceptor concept, a derivative of the Crown Victoria, and it was equipped with a DOHC engine. I doubt they went through that exercise for nothing.

Greenville County (which has a fairly large force) and several other counties around here have been making the move to the Impala, especially in traffic control.\

...Ford police intercepter...
Police were asked if they wanted the 4V and most said they didn't want to pay for it. All the old folk that buy these cars don't want to pay for it either. Many of them are on fixed incomes and just want a big car. I wouldn't be surprised if rear wheel drive is not important to them either.
The simple truth is if there is demand for it, Ford would do it if it can be accomplished at a price the customer is willing to pay and as long as it is legal (supply and demand). It makes me laugh everytime I hear someone complain that Ford (or other OEs) are to blame for not offering something which they think is best for the customer.

True - Some engineers are not car entusiasts. Many are and know exactly how to build the perfect performance vehicle. But, we do what we're told.

I have seen many motors but this one jumped out at me. I have read many threads in here that talk about the displacement is too small and it needs to be bigger. To a certain degree that is true but untrue also. I really think the Panther Engineers did not make a mistake with this engine. It has several advantages over other engines 1. Able to produce more power-Superchargers hp well over 400hp. 2. Higher performance-open up even more at high speeds. 3. Having 4 valves is much better than 2. I am pretty sure that they have tested this engine to the max and know what it can do. Its very interesting to read all the mods the guys have added to thier cars on this site and the hp keep going up and up. No matter what the engine size or hp the factory give the public we will always want more!
