Can someone with a real oil pressure gauge give me an idea of what your oil pressure is at wide open throttle above 4000rpm and what it peaks out at?

Had the same question a while back, here is RF's answer

Never had my car WOT, but I get into the 75 - 100 psi range pretty quickly when I romp on it and get into the 4000 and 5000 RPM range.

Logan I get just past the last line before 100psi,about 90psi Everything warmed up.
Auto Meter gauges,hope this helps.
I see about a maximum of 75 at WOT above 4000.

I'm with Zack. I have an oil cooler and run Royal Purple 5W-30 and the car cruises between 15-25 psi. Startupt 50-75. WOT, no higher that 45-50. Anything higher than that suggests either something wrong with the guage or something wrong with the pump.

Jim, THANK YOU. THAT was the answer I was looking for. That's what I'm seeing. I'm running 5w30 Amsoil with a cooler and I'm seeing 60-70 at cold start and about 37 at cruising...

You have a PM from me. Please read it. Glad I could help! Indy will be very interesting this year!

That's pretty close to what my digital shows, too. Using 5w20 Royal Purple.

When the revelation about the pressure gauge scam first came out, those of us who jumped on the replacement bandwagon up front found that we got almost 100 lbs on cold start (this was winter, mind you), with warm pressures of about 25 lbs idling in gear and about 50 lbs cruising...there have been quite a few of us that got very similar readings...are you saying we ALL have bad gauges or bad pumps?

I just wanted confirmation from the general populace that my readings were within nominal parameters and what everyone else was seeing...
I feel better now... The cooler has dropped my average peak temps by 20 degrees...I'm really rather happy with it... My detonation problems are gone.
Anyone running a supercharger in the southern heat DEFINATELY should be running a cooler or at least monitoring their oil temps. I don't care what any tuner tells you. Oil temps up around 230 where mine were just AIN'T COOL and will nuke the engine eventually.

100 psi in Michigan or Maine weather (I've lived in both climes) would be perfectly normal on startup. Keep an eye on the pressure after the engine temp has reached operating temp. That tells the tale.

Now I see where you were headed with your question... to see if you lost any pressure by adding the cooler. So what size and type cooler did you use? How is it plumbed? (before, after, instead of the OEM cooler) Does it have a fan and/or temperature switch to turn on the fan? If so, is it a blow thru or draw thru fan?

By the way....at higher altitudes, you will see that anomaly in your oil pressure guage. The key, is consistency. If your OP guage reads 50 psi under normal operating temps, 100 psi will not be too high on start up.

....Gee..Nut...10 questions in one sentence--wow--- but thats ok..what I was wondering--whose looking at the freckin gauges at WOT anyway to get these #'s.....huh...some of you musta had a rider do the looking...cause at my WOT ...I. 'm not about to go looking at gauges......for if I want to know--I'll have a rider do it for me---eh!... ....Tom

Bottom line.....0 psi oil pressure? Stop car. Engine damage can result...High oil pressure...no problem UNLESS it does not go down...just watch your guages.....

So what size and type cooler did you use?
The plate cooler from the Ford Motorsport catalog.

There is no OEM Oil cooler on Marauder. I used an Amsoil BMK14 kit to relocate the oil filter. Goes from the engine, to the oil filter, from the oil filter to the cooler, from the cooler back to the engine. Because of the huge intercooler rad taking up all the space up top, it's mounted horizontally underneath the bumper. When the car is moving at all, the low pressure area under the front of the car forces air through it from the bottom of the car. Sounds whacky, but trust me, it works great. That's what the air dam is for underneath the car, to help create that low pressure area and force the air up and through the rad.
Does it have a fan and/or temperature switch to turn on the fan?
No fan, Thinking about a 6.5 Spal, but it's not really required as the oil temps are only ever a problem after any type of WOT run. When the car is moving, the oil temps are controlled perfectly. I've yet to exceed 210 with the new setup. I might put one on to bring temps down quick after a blast down the track in 100 degree heat, but I think that'll be overkill.
I used -8AN fittings and hoses and 1/2" NPT to AN adapter's on the cooler.

Thanks,
I realized after I posted that I had the oil and trans coolers crossed up in my mind but didn't have computer access to correct myself. Duh...
If/when I put on a tranny cooler I would like to use a temp switch and fan. The 6.5" would be perfect but I haven't located a source. Got a link?
As for oil coolers, I'm having a police interceptor oil cooler installed on mine in the near future. It's oil-to-water and connects to the radiator hose at the bottom of the radiator. The oil lines connect to a block adapter.
I'll probably install a remote oil filter at some point also, maybe with a pre-lube system.
Thanks.
