We have noticed on both of our MMs, (a lot mor pronounced on the DTR) that the top drivers door post seems to be making contact with the roof. (See Pics) The picture quality is minimal at best, but I have circled the area that is in question.

On the black, it has scratched the paint on both surfaces, but not all the way to the primer like it has on the red.

I have it on my 2004 - driver door only.

Last year there was a thread here that covered it. Seems like many MM members have it.

The door needs to be adjusted.

Several members had their roof and doors repainted under warranty.

One member reprted it was caused by excessive load on the tie straps used in shipping and was covered by warranty.

I saw four new black MMs @ the dealership last week & they still had all of the shipping wrap/plastic on and guess what? They come w/little plastic clips on all four doors right where the paint is rubbed off! Go figure!

Yes, it's from the load straps during vehicle transport.

Mine has the marks in the roof edge where that door spots meets. Examined closely, you may see ripples in the metal across the top of the door pillar in that same area.:shake:

I had my hings replaced under warranty to try and fix this but nothing changed. You put touch up paint on it and it comes right back.

No sort of adjustments that can be made to/the door(s) to try & avoid this ?.

No such paint wear on my Blue MM. Just lucky, I guess. :D

http://www.ywave.com/~teamrope/pics/door1.jpgAfter reading this posting and viewing your pictures, I decided to check my '04 MM. I also have a DTR '04 that was built on April 4th 2004. Mine does not have any marks of any kind in these positions. That leaves me wondering if Mercury had corrected this problem. In fact, many of the small problems MM owners write in about are present on my MM. Maybe the factory sorted out all of these issues near the end of the production of the MM's.

Mine had it too. I figure its where the straps were. Dealership body shop adjusted door and repainted area. Hopefully it doesn't come back.
Disappoints me about the quality for such an expensive car though.

notice the worker at the very end on the assembly line(posted one or two cars ahead of the Black Marauder with the GRAND MARQUIS woodgrain dash!!) who had a rubber mallet??? He would feel the tops of the doors and hit the doors with the mallet and then feel them again??(exactly where you guys are talking about) I was amazed since mine has a slight bend in the sheet metal in top of drivers door which I've always wondered about, although the door does not make contact with the car body and I have no paint damage. this was at the very end of the line where the cars were examined under very bright lights before being driven of line. It seemed like an odd type of quality control to "even out" the door tops this way!!!??? I think Maple Leaf Merc was there and Big Slim. Did you guys see this??

Yeah, me too. I'm with jstevens, the overall quality of this $30k+ car is mediocre at best.

That's the area that usually comes in contact with my head if I'm drifting and not paying attention when exiting the car.
