My 03 MM (at 2000 miles) was taken to the dealer for its first oil & filter change. The service technician noted "small oil seal from rear main". I called service manager after picking up my car and read that note to him. Next day it was back in for a rear main seal replacment. No big deal because they took care of it. Thought you might like to read this and check yours.
I love this car, nothing else is like it.

Aeroman,

It's unusual, but then that kind of occurrence why they sell it with a warranty

I had not previously noticed any oil from the car. It was spotted by a good tech. And yes, warranties are great.

Not intended as a flame towards you Aeroman but sounds to me like a dealer wanting to get a warranty claim from Mercury. IMHO, Of course I could be wrong and it could just be a damn good dealership ! :)

The first 12 months your car is warranted by THE DEALER.

So if your engine goes south the dealership pays for it ??
Never heard that before. Thanks for the info.

Just called my Ford/Mercury dealer. All warranties (even 1st year) are handled by Ford. Dealer does the work, proves it and gives bill to Ford/Mercury. Ford occassionally audits warranty repairs. I guess mine fell under the occassionally audited section. All is well with dealer, he is pretty reputable in the area.

Strange... WAY to early for a MM to be marking it's territory. That'd be a motor build up problem, which is done separate from the assembly plant. Interesting...
