The Speed Channel review about 6-8 weeks ago shows this "drifting" problem really well. Especially, when the test driver couldn't keep it on the track. The 300C is very, very loose in the twisties.

Yeah, but remember: The 300C has traction control AND stability control. The 300C wasn't behaving that way in the Speed Channel "Test Drive" review until Tommy Kendall said something like "OK, now let's turn off the stability control and have some fun with it". That's when the tail wagging started.

Understand. However, even before the ESC was "switched off", the 300C was squealing and crabbing in the corners with a very definite side roll. Looks to me that it needs alot of suspension enhancements to get on par with the handling of even a stock Marauder. Those were my observations of the 300C.

I'm sorry, but that was awesome. Did you hear the engine growl as it smoked the rears and started to straighten out?! Wow!
I'm waiting for somebody to blow one of those 300C's...I'm sure it's probably been done already. A supercharged 300C will pose quite a challenge to the blown Marauders....though I'd still take a Marauder over the 300C anyday. :)

Did you see the little picture in a recent Car and Driver (it's the one with the high$ V12 cars on the cover)? They have a picture of the upcoming 300C 2 door, and IMHO, it looks a lot better. CD also says that Chrysler is coming out with a convertible version. That might be enough to sway me away from my Marauder. Or, even better, it'll be paid for by then and I'll just keep both!

Say what you will about styling - I think it looks like **** on a stick, but like to see anything motivated by a V8, that puts power down through the rear wheels. Too bad it looks the way it does...
I've also heard less than stellar things, regarding the handling characteristics, too. The AWD version comes out later this year. Perhaps that will be better, at the cost of some acceleration...

From your sig pic, I thought you might be interested in this: I was reading in my new issue of Automotive News yesterday, and article on the Magnum. It said that pickups and SUVs were the primary trades on new Magnums. It even specificallymentioned one guy that traded in a Lightning on a Magnum RT.
A dealer in the next town finally got in a Magnum RT and I'm gonna go try to drive it later this week.

Really??? Ford has spend a fair bit of money, to come to the conclusion Lightning owners are among their most loyal customers - greater likelyhood of buying another Ford product, next time around...
On top of that, unless it was a "family" decision, I'd have trouble understanding wanting to make the step down in performance...
Here's a recent run, reported by a Magnum RT owner (granted weather conditions were not the best):
60' - 2.199
330' - 6.234
1/8 - 9.484 @ 77.14
1000' - 12.311
14.702 @ 95.23
Nothing earth shattering, there...
Oh yeah, last point - coming to a Nelly video near you (it's a V6, BTW):

Wish I could! The only way a Marauder is going to do that is with a S/C or wet pavement!

You know, I read not long ago (also in "Automotive News") that THE most loyal model of ALL cars is the Mercury Grand Marquis. The GM has more GM's traded in on it than the same situation with any other model. It's also very near or the oldest in terms of the average age of its owners. Even older than the Town Car, which I initially thought was surprising, until you think about all the TC's going to livery companies.

There aren't too many more options, for the typical 65-pluser (no offense, to anyone here), in the bigger-than-big, American, V8, RWD category. Plus, the demographic tends to get comfortable with what they are used to (again, no offense meant)...
PS - Nice use of the word "livery" - betcha some people will have yo go to dictionary.com on that one... :cool4:

I can't say. I got it off the Car Domain site. I do believe it is sock. I drove a 300C and it will burn the tires as long as the ESP is turned off.

Dollar for dollar, the Grand Marquis is probably the best value in the market, especially with the Ford cash back. Most of us older folks have to start thinking about value once we retire, or get near retirement age, for obvious reasons.
Saw a 300C in Hoboken, NJ, Friday with a mesh grille. Car was a hemi; color was a creamy off white. I think it had after market wheels, but it drove by too quickly to notice. Grille looked very elegant.
While I am not a fan of the 300C styling, this car was very impressive. Really looked like a baby Bentley, although I'm not crazy about the Bentley styling either.

Close, but I think that there was more "mesh" and less chrome around the mesh.

I tell you I am seeing a lot more 300's on the streets now,in fact almost as many as Crown Vics already to be honest.
They are a nice car and I am very glad Chrysler went ahead with the risk of introducing that new platform. The risk factor is totally forgotten about now.
I drove a 300C in May and was impressed.
