Hello all! I am a new member, and I love the new Marauder and am considering it as my next car. My question is if wether or not the moon roof is a factory installed option, or a dealer installed option. I really like this forum, and I already have a file of known problems and issues to go over with the dealer before I even purchase the car. This is definetely a wonderful resource!

SaxGuy,
Welcome!
This is indeed a wonderful resource.
It's my understanding that the roof is not a factory option - yet.

Thanks for the welcome Macon Marauder! When I went to the Schaumburg Lincoln & Mercury dealer in IL they said that I could get it installed. After speaking with a friend who told me that it would be a dealer install, I wanted to verify the information. I don't know how safe it would be having a dealer install the moon roof in a long term sense. Ive heard horror stories of aftermarket moon roofs leaking horribly! Thanks for the quick response though, and I appreciate the welcome.

SaxGuy,
Welcome to the site...On your moon roof question you may want to check with White Knuckles, he had one added to his MM by the dealer... I believe there are a couples of pictures of a conversion over in the Photo Gallery as well...

SaxGuy,
I had a roof installed in my MM. The roof itself is top quality (I have the name of the manufacturer at home and I can get it for you if you like). I am told that there are really three main companies that make sunroof mechanisms and they supply all the car companies with them. From what I am told, even Mercedes Benz outsources their sunroofs.
I had mine done at the local shop that all the dealers use. I doubt your dealer will actually install it themselves, they will send it out to a guy like the one I used. Typically, the same shop will do sunroof installs, "Landau" (aka vinyl) roofs on caddy's and Lincolns, and sometimes convertable top repair and replacement as well as upholstery.
Though it still makes me cringe thinking of them taking a saws-all to the top of my new car, they did a great job. They ran 4 drain lines from each corner of the roof and actually tested them by pouring water through them. The shop owner told me that most of the problem installs he has fixed from other shops come from kinked drain lines. This is the most often screwed up part of the deal. If the drain does not flow, the water ends up inside the car.
Shop around for the best shop (if your lucky you will find one like mine that has been around a long time, has a great reputation and has employees that have been with them for years ... you don't want some fresh faced kid who has been doing stereo installs cutting his teeth on your rooof!), make sure they use a top quality roof and you should be pleased with the result. You will actually get extra features like one touch open/close and automatic closing when you shut the car off that are not usually seen on the "lowest bidder" "factory" roofs.
Have fun!

Hey SaxGuy... If you need tinting, check out Pilson Auto Glass. They have 2 locations and did a great job on my MM. Rear tint only @ 35%.
awesome job; nice people

Even though you can get it installed, I'd just order one with it already in place. If you'll look at www.mercuryvehicles.com, and select Build A Car, and select Marauder, you'll find the new interior color, heated seats, and moon roof have been added to the option list. I'd rather it come from the factory than as to have someone (even a pro) do it.

Thanks for all of the great replies. The last time I checked the Mercury website those weren't available options. I really like the idea of having a moon-roof! Slow Poke, window tinting is something that will have to be done a car like the marauder, but do you know what our window tinting limit is in Chicago? I've checked a couple of places and they claim that you can tint any percent you want on the rear window, and rear passenger windows, but I'm not sure of the validity of the information. Let me know if you have any information concerning this.

your friends are correct. rear and back windows...any tint you want. front and windshield, the law saws zero. However it's up to the officer who pulls you over.

Thanks for the confirmation slowpoke! As for the Mercury website, I just checked it and the moon-roof doesn't show up in the options. Just the 6-CD changer, Trunk organizer, and Heated seats.

I just checked www.mercuryvehicles.com but the moonroof option didn't show up when I selected build my marauder. I wouldn't think it depends on what zip code you enter.
Saxguy, I was originally waiting for the factory moonroof option but the Highland Park dealer told me it keeps getting pushed back indefinitely. They also offered me an aftermarket moonroof option for around $1100. I got my marauder 10 days ago before the old rebates expired, but will wait until summer to decide on the aftermarket option.
Highland Park exclusively uses Tucker Automotive in Palatine to install moonroofs in all their L/Ms, and other people have recommended them too. I personally haven't checked them out yet but may be worth your while to contact them- http://www.tuckerautomotive.com

Hi SaxGuy,
I worked in the auto service end of dealers for 14 years before finally giving up on it. One thing I can tell you is if it came from the facotry its going to be warranteed. Any thing aftermarket you put in your car you are taking your chances with. I found that if we got a sunroof in that had a shoddy installation which caused another problem in the car, the manufacturer pointed thier fingers at the aftermaket facility and refused to cover the damage, and the aftermarket facility pointed their fingers at the manufacturer leaving the customer to pay for the bill until something could get resolved. I do not feel that is fair to the customer but yet these aftermarkets joints still exist. All I can say is buyer beware.

The moon roof is now a factory option. If you are ordering a Marauder the dealer should know about it!

Welcome SaxGuy! Moonroof can be ordered from factory[code 13G]. Another new item is UBL or Underbody Perimeter Lighting. I guess that's for that import look. If you have any questions go to your dealer for doublespeak[in most cases],then come here for the straight stuff!

Here is the Order guide. Moon roof is clearly listed under options.
Print it out and take it to your Dealer

Will this be a power moon-roof, or manual? This is the hardest option for me to choose besides the color. I'm torn between silver, and black!

Black makes a statement no other color can live up to.

Silver won't be available for ordering until the beginning of may, so unless you want blue, just go ahead and order black.

OK - all of you have had had one cut into the roof... what do you do with the overhead console? Does it get removed completely? Replaced? Shortened? Hmm...
Thanks!

There are some pics posted in the Photo Gallery of my moonroof installation. On mine, they shortened the factory roof console and it looks OK.
Others on the board have suggested that we can just use the short console from the Lincoln's with the m/r.
