View Full Version : I blew it.....

On a cloudy Friday on the west side of Indianapolis, the air was heavy, the temp was sultry.....
Impalla SS's were amongst us. We chose our our bracket, and marched into the ring. There were grudges to be settled and brackets to meet. I felt most comfortable in the 13-13.99 second bracket until the weather slowed the blown cars down, and fell into this catergory as well. I ran 13.40's all day, my best so far with Lidio's tune and a mix of 110 and 100 octane.
There was one car to avoid for me though, and slowly but surely in our class, an Impalla carefully took race after race. He had a bottle, but he didn't always use it. After all the runs were tallied....it had to happen. We ended together...the last two...Chevy and a Merc.
He dialed in 13.5 and I at 13.4....this was it. My time to make things good and perhaps win my first trophie. The only trick with this fellow was to match his .021 r/t. With all that low end torque, and his quick reflexes...I felt nervous. I hadn't been nervous all day...in fact, I have never been nervous at the track. My best r/t was .099, and I knew that wasn't gonna cut it today.
We staged. I revved to 4400 rpm's for a great launch....a 1.89 60 ft. and a great r/t could do it....and I KNEW that. Logan was on the PA and I could hear his voice thru the car. Cruztaker was our last resort....COME-ON!!!
(Mental note....this particular IMP SS has a big sign on his back window that says "IF YOU CAN READ THIS...YOU MUST BE IN A MARAUDER")
After a smokie burnout that blocked out vision of the tree for a hot minute....the lights fell.
In all the excitement I did my second only red light and left .005 too early.:shake:
Kudos to the SS....and SHAME on me.
I'm sorry I let us down.....must go drown sorrows now....:sleepy:

He later told me that when he saw the red-light, he threw the wood to it with all disregard to his dial in. Let me tell you folks....I still beat him by a car length. Had I not red-lighted...I damn well would have beat that fellow.
Kudos to the SS....and SHAME on me.

Don't beat up on yourself too hard. Still sounds like a great run to me --- and you didn't have to read that (insert strong word here) sign all the way down the track. I am sure that he thought he was beaten by a car length --- .005 jump --- It certainly could have gone either way. Great sportsmanship, by the way !!!!

You had a good showing! Nothing to hang your head about.
In bracket racing I redlited by .05 againest a hopped up Camaro SS that runs at the track regularly. He didn't know I redlited and thought I beat him.
I knew he was experienced and I would need an excellent reaction time to beat him, I reacted so fast I redlited!

13's all day is nothing to feel shame for. Even John Force red lights on occassion.
Way to represent!
You "blew" nothing Barry...'cept about every previous 1/4 mile time with a N/A Marauder...
Congrats!

For crying out loud Barry.... Hey good job  I kinda wish I was there, went and spent all my play money on that Burnouts Accross America gig, but that's okay. We all know that you're the man, ballsy enough to put a 13.4 on your window. Drown a little for me if you could please.

Don't worry about it Barry. You ran the most consistant of anyone all day. You should hold your head up proudly because you did a great job representing us. By the way, that SS said M'Rotter in the back window. Everyone had fun out there. Lidio ran a track best 11.9. Great to see everyone had fun being together.

 Way to go Barry you just put doubt in the minds of certain chevy owners, especially one Impala SS owner.Thats the way to do it, :banana2:

It was a great showing Barry, stand up and take credit. Like I said to you earlier tonight we no longer are going to consider your car "Normally Aspirated" you are now officially "NASTILY ASPIRATED". it was a great day for everyone here, everyone was having a great time on and off the track.

Premature acceleration ? Don't worry Barry, I'm sure a lot of guys here have this problem. :burnout: :o :P

I'm wondering what a supercharger would do to a MM that already, as N/A, does 13.4 in the 1/4....
Thats gotta be a very low 12 second car.....

Congrats!
Todd is right Barry. I previously had the best N/A Marauder ET w/a 13.519, and Marty close behind at a 13.58 ET, but not only have you beaten both our N/A times, but have done so in temperature that had to be 30 or 40 degrees warmer. Very impressive. :banana2:

Lidio ran a track best 11.9. Not according to the Impala SS guys who are claiming that one of their guys who was there ran an 11.6 ET.

Barry.....you "didn't blow it!" Thge idea was to have fun, enjoy the day, meet new friends, and let the chips fall as they may. I think we all made a good showing, and I believe the "Bow Tie" guys will agree! Now we'll just have to live down the hype over on the GM boards for awhile, but it's all in good fun! "That's the mainthing toi remember!"
Now, lets talk about color codes!

That fellow did....
It's the same guy that beat me. We agreed that since I didn't have a bottle...he wouldn't use his.
That fella took all three of our awards!:shake:
Next year we need to make up some stickers of our own.
"W-Impala Hunters of America" "WHOA!"

Just curious, why would someone bring an Impala or any other type car to a Mercury meet? Was this meet open to all type cars?

They were invited to attend in the spirit of good sportsmanship for our fellow GM drivers.

Hey Menace....they were invited!!!
And BTW: wasn't it you that said "just spend the money on a blower...." ????;)
13.4 = Not too shabby. Wait till Ohio gets into the 58 degree 50% humidity day....mmmm:rock:
