View Full Version : The #1 Reason MartyO did not go to Marauderville II

I know many of you were wondering why MartyO did not go to Marauderville II; well I have the answer for you... Because who in Indy was going to perform his emergency appendectomy??
Please say a little prayer for Marty while he is recovering from his surgery. I just left the hospital after a full night of waiting. We were hoping that his surgery would be a quick little procedure, but it turned into close to three hours, and the surgeon told me that Marty will need to remain in the hospital for the entire week.
For those of you who know him as a workaholic, you will not be surprised to hear that Marty went into work on Friday feeling as you can imagine, sick as a dog, and remained there for the entire day. When he got home at 8:30, I took him straight to the hospital. Would anyone like to make book on what his last words to the surgeon was before they rolled him off to the O.R.? "When can I go back to work"? :shake:
I know Marty wanted me to post a funny thread about why he didn't go to Indy, but that was before the surgery. He should be OK - so says the surgeon.

But the guys in Indy would have replaced his appendix with a high performance part. It would have done what ever appendixes do, quicker, faster, and probably louder.
And they would have left a cool, if large and crooked, scar.

I just got off the phone with Marty...to say he's in some pain would be an understatement. But, he is getting the BEST care with Terri by his side.
Some "complications" have resulted in his needing to be in the hospital for the next week, so please continue to join me with your thoughts and prayers for his speedy recovery.

I'm just home from the hospital, and it's been a long 24 hours. I left Marty sleeping with the help of a little shot of something for the pain, so he should be knocked out until I get back in the morning. He was pretty out of it all day, and of course he slept through most of it, but I could still see his mind turning over what he was going to miss in the office next week.
Thanks for the kind words Todd, I've been on top of the doctor and nurses all day, and I made the Doctor come in from home to do a 10 PM visit; and just to make sure that he doesn't get ignored in my absence, I left him with an aide who will take care of him through the night. I like to think that I treat Marty like one would treat their Marauder; I'm sure you can all appreciate that. ;)
Thank you again everyone for your well wishes. I will print out the thread and bring it to him tomorrow, I know it will help cheer him up.

If you've every had Marty leave you a voice mail, he usually ends it with "Be well, my friend."
Yes, my friend >you< be well.
Marty's last post was at 3:50 PM central time, in the "talking amoung ourselves" thread. He had posted several responses about cleaning up the garage, about cabinets and such. Even mentioned the NHRA clock I found.
Marty is such a great friend, so generous, funny, and loves fast cars and trucks. I want so badly for him to get well, to be back at the keyboard throwing insults at Todd, to making me laugh so hard that Pepsi shoots out my nose.
Get well, Counselor. It aint the same here without ya.

Marty is doing well (considering)...trying to relax, and I think he's enjoying the "poking and prodding" :mad2: that are going on, on a regular basis.

Marty,
Coli and I had the pleasure of having breakfast Saturday with a couple of your Atlanta area cohorts (Donny & Kathy). When Kathy told me that you were under the knife- everything kinda stopped. I was sad that you weren't with us but I felt good that you were in a city with access to the world's best medical care.
When Logan made the announcement about you, the room sort of paused (I don't know how to describe it any other way). We've only met once- briefly but I've spent hours reading your posts and enjoying your presence here- I think everyone has. Get well soon, Bro. We need you.

Because who in Indy was going to perform his emergency appendectomy??
I would have stepped up. Although I have had no surgical training - I was equipped with my Leatherman multi-tool and a bottle of Jack Daniels. I've delivered puppies before. I think an emergency appendectomy is essentially the same procedure. He'd have been just fine...;)
Thanks Todd for the update. Marty this is no excuse to not race in English Town this fall. While you are in bed work on your reaction time. :banana2:

Marty, Gee, you scared the h--- out of me- :nono: -I almost lost my daughter, Cindy ,to an appendectomy a few years ago---it's a scary thing. You hang in there and let people take care of you for a change. How many times do I have to tell you, slow down, smell the roses, love life and the world will take care of itself. Your first obligations are to yourself and your loved ones (Marauder included) and being healthy is one of these. Now, you get well soon. Why don't you come on down to Texas for some R & R---Ginny's cooking will make anyone feel better. We all really missed you and our prayers are with you--there will be a Marauderville III and you had better be there . For now, RELAX and don't think of anything but getting better
If we can do anything to make things easier for you, let us know. Adoption papers are in the mail, Maury and Ginny

I am back on my feet but will be in the hospital until Friday or Saturday. Trust me, I plan on getting them to throw me out by Friday!
I can't wait to get home and sleep in more than the 45 minute increments that I get in the hospital between pokings, proddings and stickings.
After that, I expect to be homebound for two weeks. Then I will ease back into my 80 hour work week.

Son of a gun, why didn't I think of that? We've all been focusing on that J-shaped resonator on the intake side of things, but good old Marty's taken things one step further and managed to find one such thing to remove on the exhaust side as well!
I wonder if he's gonna walk funny with the lid off a peanut butter jar epoxy'ed onto the side of his large intestine. And worse... is it clamped on tight enough to avoid getting displaced during... um... moments of gaseous pressure difference, which seems to have been a problem discussed lately?

Marty,
You should have had your operation in Canada, after exchange , you'd only had half the problems.
Glad to hear you're doing better, keep the hiney (oops ) shiney side up.

Now that was very thoughtfull, but I don't know if Marty will feel right about getting anything from the breakfast table unless he's under the table at someone's feet having it fed to him by hand like he's accustomed to.

Hi Marty,
I guess one has to read all the threads. I just saw this one.
I had noticed your absence around the site.
I'm sure you'll make up for that while you are in recovery.
Well at least now I don't have to worry about you since everthing seems to be on the mend. I guess it's good to be behind the curve occassionally.
The last time I had surgery, (Non emergency) my time off from work more than made up for the pain.
I hope you can relax and enjoy some of the silver lineing. Maybe catch up on some of those McKinney's novels you've been meaning to make the time for?
The hard part is not being able to work on, clean etc. the Merc.
DON'T OVERDO IT when you are home alone.
Adios and get well since we still need you to pound out the bushings on the next set of control arms going in a Marauder around here.
Take Care,
Jay

Marty, glad to hear you are on the mend! Take it easy and don't over do it while you are recovering. Trying to do too much, too soon, will just set you back. Take it from someone who's been there, done that...
Get well soon, rayjay

Serious moment here: ( <- a rarity for me?)
There's a bug going around that's really nailing a lot of people in hospitals, and in particular (from what I've noticed) those with operations requiring abdominal opening. I don't know the complete name of this 'disease' but it's a very strong and super-resistant bacteria with a name like "C.Dificil" (sp?). There have been hundreds of deaths in hospitals around here, including my grandmother back in late 2001 before there was even a name for this thing, and just recently it almost nailed my uncle.
In both cases, it was a hernia operation... in both cases, the bug reared its ugly head within days of leaving the hospital (symptoms: queasiness, lack of appetite, weakness) and then it quickly goes downhill from there.
I know this thread is about well-wishing and I hate being alarmist, but I think it's important for Marty (you reading this?) to make sure the recovery is QUICK and taken VERY seriously. Within one week, I lost my grandmother to this (she slipped from uncomfortable consciousness to death within 48 hours once the bug accelerated) and my uncle is still (one month later) slowly recovering from the side effects (slow healing, etc.) although he is home and mobile.
Make sure you heal right and quick the first time, Marty.
Ok, serious moment over... time for me to get back to being stupid as usual...

It's out being ceramic coated. It'll look like jewelry when it is done!
Talk to Zack....maybe he can incorporate it on your new grille.....

Pretty powerful post, Steve...I'm sorry for the loss of your grandmother and the close call with your uncle- very scary. Marty, as a self-admitted workaholic would be wise to digest this post. I know we've been baggin' on him with this thread but I think you said what a lot of us feel about this man.
This thread reminds me a little of "The Razor's Edge"- the ambulance drivers would speak horribly of their fallen comrades to avoid going crazy from the grief. If we all lived in NY- we'd be driving Teri nuts with our visits and she'd be chasing us away. The surgery and recovery is a serious business and I applaud you for sharing your concern in a fashion the rest of us probably couldn't express. You rock, Bro!

Marty:
Where else but the internet would this many people, many of whom you've never met, give you so much grief?
God, I LOVE this site...
Amen to that

Any Marty condition updates today? Mary? Todd? Marty? Terri?
Dan: First off, please PM me a number and time whereI can call you (you know why!)
Thanks for asking. I just got home. Cleared up a few office SNAFU's and am on the mend.
My belly is still very sore from the incisions. Plus I have a bunch of metal staples that will come out next Monday.
I will be working from home for the next week (except Friday the 13th when I will have to be in Court - 135 cases on my calendar).
I plan to return to the office on August 16th and see how it goes from there.
I can honestly say that while I generally got great care in the hospital, I hated the confinement from my friends and work. It feels great to be free again!!!
Thanks for all the moral suppor my friends here gave to me and Terri. Trust me, we needed it and truly apreciated it. The power of positive thought is incredible.

Great update!!-Thanks!!!! I sent PM but no numbers- just get better, Marty and we'll call it even. :) My hat's off to Marauderbug- I'm sure you were quite annoying while you were cooped up in the hospital...Don't bite off too much work stuff at first...You scared us all and nobody wants to find out you've gone back into the hospital for any reason:nono: .
