It is the model (Police Interceptor) built for Police departments.

Is there any reason for the name "Panther" ? Does anyone know why this was selected?

At about the same time that the Panter Platform was introduced, The new Mustange Platform was presented, and was called the Fox platform. I think Ford was on an animal kick to get away from Mopar's and GM,s Letter codeing
