Took the whole family ( wife & 2 daughters ) to Test N' Tune @No Problem Raceway last nite. This was their first at the drag strip. I have been trying all summer to get them to come with me but the wife kept scheduling "conflicts".
It's been the hotest 3 weeks I can remember in the past 7 years, heat index has been 110* to 115*. Temps are 93*, but the humidity dropped to 77% this week, which dropped the heat index to 105*.
There was a good mix of about 55 cars, mostly street and 10 trailered. 15 bikes.
My times were 14.618/14.586/14.591/14.476/14.34/14.441/14.484. R/T was .255/-.04/.14/.265/.05/-.03/.263.
A Dodge 300C w/ the 5.7 Hemi ran 15.16, Saleen 351 ran 13.136, 2 mid 1980's camaros ran 14.85's.
My second run was againest a 4 door Acura, I redlited w/ -.040. He ran 16.161 w/ a .259 R/T.
3rd run againest a 26 year old guy with couffed hair, GQ clothes and an immaculate black Dode 3000 GT Turbo. I am determined to beat him, I remember they used to run 0-60 in the low 6, high 5's so I will need a good R/T. I zone in on the third yellow. Wam the second it starts to flicker I mash it. Wow, my R/T is .140 to his .879, (maybe he was busy fixing his hair?), my 60' is 2.166 to his 2.421. My 1/4 is 14.591 to his 15.440. I beat him by 1.5884! :bounce: Ahh, the grand ma Marauder with the middle aged guy wearing glasses squashes another young ego, bet he never tells his friends about this one!
5th run I line up againest a 2003 Black Mustang GT with headers and drag radials. He has a helmet so I know he is expecting to run 13.99 or better. I am not intimidated, I figure he will run a low 14, but if I nail the R/T I can maybe get a .50 head start and beat him. I go around the water box, he does a big burn out, I do not, I have the OEM AllSeason Tires.
I am 100% focused on the 3rd yellow, (it's been a really tough week at work they changed the recording of our production 6-1-04 and even though I have been working harder and selling more the production reports are artifically down!, I put all that in the empty box in my head.), The 3rd yellow flickers and I smash it for a .050 R/T! :banana2: He red lites w/ a -.144 R/T! He is .194 ahead. His 60' is 2.183 to my 2.137, he is now .107 ahead. His 330 is 6.065 to my 6.024, he is now .06 ahead, we are neck and neck. The 2 Ton Marauder is pushing the air on him!
His 1/8 mile is 9.265 to my 9.218, he is now .013 ahead! His 1,000' is 11.983 to my 11.986 the air is now holding back my 2 Ton Marauder! He moves out to .016 ahead! The lite for the 1/4 traps are approaching, we are neck and neck! I am not sure who won, I go to the time shack and He beats me by .061! But he did redlite!
The young lady in the Time Shack says, "... that car is way too nice to race!" I reply it's not mine it's my grandmother's and she is 95!
The Mustang pulls in the pits and parks!
I park it and visit w/ the family in the stands, the nite before I had explained the drag strip to the kids and they tested their reaction time on a tree on the internet. They were very excited and really enjoyed watching dad get some wins! :banana2:
I then make a few more runs and wins. I see the line is long and the sun is going down,( mosquitos will follow) so I turn around in the staging lanes and park. I get the family to pick out a picture, they each want one of the MM for their room.
It was a great day of family and drag racing. I owe it all to this club and the MM! The next morning the wife say, I had fun at the track last nite!
