What's the nuttiest thing you've ever fit into the trunk of your Marauder?

I've been pricing a Yakima bike rack for the roof of our BMW wagon, and I'm having a tough time pulling the $550 trigger. We bought a kiddie trailer to tote our 5 month old, and wanted to try it this weekend. The BMW is in the shop, and I haven't bought the rack yet anyhow, so I turned my eyes towards the Mercury.

I fit the kiddie trailer and 2 mountain bikes inside the trunk of the Maruader. Who needs a rack?

That's crazy... I think I'll skip the Yakima and put the $550 towards a moonroof for the Maruader... so what have you fit in the trunk of yours?

Ugh.

C'mon... we always talk about what's under the hood... with automatic load-leveling God only knows what all is under the trunk lid... what's fit under yours?

My trunk is as clean as the day I bought it. The trunk organizer keeps the tool kit and miscellaneous items out of view. I don't use the Marauder for hauling stuff .... I have the E-150 van for that. And, it has been a long time since I had to carry baby strollers, playpens, diaper bags, and Toys-R-Us in the trunk of the car.

I just had an Apple (computer), two bags of guava, three jackets, two chairs (folding type), a box of Sunshine State Marauder hats and shirts, and my mini road side kit.

I almost agree. I keep different cleaning products in mine, and my car cover rolled up.

The car cover - when wet - tends to get the interior wet, and in the spring I found quite a bit of water under the trunk organizer. It caused some mildew, and could be smelt inside the car. Took some work to get out, but that's basically all that's been in my trunk since I bought it.

My CV however, which has the same size trunk, had a 6hp gas lawnmower in it for a short time (folded up). Plus it always has all my winter emergency equipment - 2 ton hydraulic jack, spare tools, spare fluids, first aid kit, blanket and non perishable food . . .

One-piece toilet. The store said it would not fit in the trunk. I did have to remove the spare, though.

Sousaphone and 4 trombones with room for about 15 flutes or clarinets.

OR

2 entire sets of exhaust including mufflers - one of them stock and the other a DR exhaust. Got to drive it completely open from the manifolds on my trip to the muffler shop.

My spare stayed in that day, too.

I put in 4 Bullitt Mustang rims and tires and didn't have to move the full size spare.

Well bear in mind my marauder is my only car. I have had Lava sand and rock,
fertilizer, mulch, texas green sand all told about 1037 pounds. And then went to a car show, did not "display" the trunk load levels right up.

Not that its nutty, but I have a set of golf clubs, two golf bags, assorted clothing that has been worn (socks, vests, skivvies) and an old pair of golf shoes that I've worn while walking the course in the rain. I thought about stuffing my mother in law in there, but I didn't want the trunk to smell bad.

A bag of nuts, some coconuts, and a box of nuts.

I thought we could fit at least 6 bodies in. That's according to DeNiro in that "Analyze This" movie.

We have a winner! The man from Hard Hittin' has the most nuts... (did that come out right?)

The 1037 lbs of lava rock is a close runner up... I mean a half-ton of anything in the trunk of a car is pretty nutty!

OK. Since the Marauder trunk has been selected, I'll tell about the "nuttiest" trunkload that I ever saw. Time was 1957. Trunk was on a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook (you won't find this car listed in the muscle mags). My father and his friend went to pick up a 1/2 keg of beer. Along the way, they found or picked up a wheelbarrow. Since both would not fit in the trunk, here's how they solved the problem. The friend sat in the trunk and held the handles to the wheelbarrow. The 1/2 keg was in the wheelbarrow. Don't know how far they travelled like that ... but it sure made an impression (of how not to do something nutty) on a 7 year old.

For the curious...(Though this is a 51, not that it matters much to the model)

Here some shots of a '53 two-door Coupe. Ours was black. One just sold for $4,900. I think my father paid less than $1,500 brand new. It's nickname was the "Leapin' Leana" --- had 3 sets of shocks on it in the time we owned it.

It doesn't seem to hold much. And when your car comes with it, the web is deleted, which actually is a very useful item.
