Does anyone have instructions for removal of the center console. I am trying to install a hands free phone kit and want all wires to be completely hidden and need to remove the console.
thanks,
I've thought of that myself. It would be better than the one sticking out of my cigarette lighter.

Set parking brake.
Place gear selector in 1st.
Remove the gauge cluster (disconnect electrical).
Release console finish panel (cup holder, etc.).
Remove bin.
Disconnect electrical (release the connector locator from the transmission selector lever assembly).
To place the shifter aside: Remove the four (4) bolts (torque value 9 lb-ft). Disconnect electrical.
Remove console bolts (torque value 71 lb-in).
To remove console: lift aside gear selector, slide console rearward.
These are the removal instructions from the service manual. Hope this helps you out.

I'm going to be working on my center console this weekend and would like some more detail on the procedure.
In typical Ford fashion, it assumes you do this for a living. (haha)
1. Set parking brake.
2. Place gear selector in 1st.
3. Remove the gauge cluster (disconnect electrical).
4. Release console finish panel (cup holder, etc.).
5. Remove bin.
6. Disconnect electrical (release the connector locator from the transmission selector lever assembly).
7. To place the shifter aside: Remove the four (4) bolts (torque value 9 lb-ft). 8. Disconnect electrical.
9. Remove console bolts (torque value 71 lb-in).
10. To remove console: lift aside gear selector, slide console rearward.
1. Check.
2. Check.
3. If any of you have removed the gauge cluster, you know there is more to this step. IE: Pull down and away with a force that you are sure to wreck it with.
4. What exactly is the "Console Finish Panel"? Exactly HOW do you release it?
5. Bin? Where is it and how do you remove it?
6. Ah, a connector! I've seen these before. Check (I think)
7. I'm guessing the bolts will be obvious with the above moved.
So really, I need specific help with 4 and 5 before I tackle this and break something.
Cheers!

Hopefully this additional info will assist you:
After following previous instructions on Emerg. brake and trans shift position,
1. Remove Gauge pod by gripping each side and pulling straight back,
there are two "flimsy" clips that hold it in place. They are subject to breaking,
and not readily replaceable. Unplug the 3 connectors.
2. Open console lid, grip lid front and back and pull straight up.
There are 6 clips that hold the box in place. Disconnect aux lighter plug.
Set box aside.
3. The "carbon fiber" finish panel around shifter is also held in place with
more clips, pull up to release.
4. Hopefully this will give you access to run your new wiring, if not the screws
holding the sides of the console should be accessible for removal and release
of either side.
I hope this helps, if you have more Qs just PM me. :2thumbs:

Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for. I don't think I would have guessed to pull up on the console lid.
Thanks!
