I've been told the transmission in my wife's '04 Crown Vic is the same as the Marauder. Is this true? if so,what can be done to it for longer life, and to clean up the sloppy shifts?
Does anybody sell a shift kit or a performance built trans for it?
I plan on adding a supercharger of some sort in the future to make it a bit more fun to drive, and I'm afraid that the stock trans will not be up to the task.
Thanks,
Nathan

It's probably the same as an '03 Marauder a 4R70W

Simple tuning can be done with a Superchips Micro tuner. They are available from vendors here such as Innovative Interceptors and Dennis Reinhart
More extensive alterations are available which would involve opening up the transmission. I don't know how much of it would be required in a CV

Welcome aboard, Nathansvic. Does your CV have the Handling and Performance package? If so, you could use the CVPI PCM. I did this to my 1992 GM LS. The PCM works great with the dual exhaust and the 3.27 axle ratio that the Handling & Performance package has.

Just my .02 and then some.

Welcome nathansvic-Im not sure if anyone else out there has one installed but I had a Shift-Kit installed in my trans and Im quite happy with it. Just needed to upgrade my D.R. program that was e-mailed by Dennis Reinhardt. Needed to reduce line pressure because of the shift kit and Im very happy with the results. do some research on this site cause there,s a lot of info on trans upgrades...:twocents:

what can be done to it for longer life, and to clean up the sloppy shifts?Although a CVPI PCM will improve the shifting slightly, buying one for an '04 would probably be expensive (not a lot of '04s in junkyards, yet)...and if bought new, you'd have to have the PATS re-programmed to match your keys (I think). You can get a Superchips Custom Tuning 9100 hand-held tuner for less money, and it will add significant performance as well as improving the shift scheduling dramatically.

To increase longevity of the transmission, change the fluid every 15k miles or so...a bigger cooler would be a good idea, too, especially with a power adder.

I plan on adding a supercharger of some sort in the future...and I'm afraid that the stock trans will not be up to the task. You're right, it won't be. Contact Dennis Reinhart (www.reinhartautomotive.com) and ask for his Stage II transmission upgrade...it'll make your transmission bullet-proof.

Thanks for the input guys..I confirmed today that it's the 4r75e by stopping by my local dealer, and running the VIN.

How does this trans differ from the 4r70w? the dealers there told me that they're not even allowed to tear into them for rebuilds-they have to send them back in for a replacement.

How does one cantact this Dennis? I assume it's the same person on the Reinhart automotive section of this site?

I already installed the largest cooler that I could find for it-it's supposed to be a 40K gvrw cooler-got it from bulkpart.com..it was $129,it was fun installing it though-it was tough to get in there.Fluid's already ben changed once, and it'll be due again in about 7K more miles(my wife loves to put miles on the car-and with the way gas prives have been she's gonna put me in the poorhouse:rofl: )
Thanks again,,
Nathan

The 4R75 is re-tweaked alittle then the 4R70W. Depending if she has the HPP (Handling Performance Package) then she has the 11.25" converter which was re-vamped alittle in the 4R75, if she does not have the HPP she has the 12" converter. BTW, last time I checked all 98+ Vics have transmission coolers from factory (unless they decontented them 03.5+).

The port on the PCM was closed sometime in 03 Vics, which means you can not use a chip and requires ordering a custom tuner.

The PI PCM is useless in a PATS vehicle because it involves having it taken into the dealership (more cost then its worth) to have it cleared for the PATS system, inwhich the CVPI does not have PATS.

The 12" converter is not good past 5,600 rpms and the 11.25" converter is good to 6000+ rpms (not suggested much more then 6,200rpms and heads will not allow to go much any further).

that's interesting, because from what I've seen only the '04 Marauder, and some of the '04 Town Cars, received the 4R75W transmission.
Of course if something is in short supply, they sometimes make substitutions, and that might explain the 4R75W in your CV. Who knows?

RC, the 4R75W was put in 04 CV's and Grand Marquis also.
