I had a dealer tell me that they could install a 6 disc changer on a car not factory equiped with one. Do they have to change the radio too? I didnt think the wire harness would be to the trunk unless the car came from the factory with the changer. Of course this guy is trying to sell me a new Marauder. If it is a simple install I might take him up on it!
Thanks,
Jim

They don't have to change the radio. The wire harness in NOT installed. Check a thread by vegas marauder who did an install. Beside the unit you need brackets, cover for the trunk unit and misc. hardware. You may be able to purchase a unit from a member of this site who upgrades or on Ebay.

Crutchfield sells the factory cd changer also. Take a look there.

This is indeed an easy installation for your dealer or anyone else with a liitle bit of savvy. It's as simple as plugging a cable into the rear of the head unit and running it to the trunk thru existing conduits under the door sills. Mounting the changer is a no brainer also. Believe him when says it's no big deal.

Thanks Guys,
Thats good info. I looked up Crutchfield and their complete OEM kit is $270.00. Not bad compared to $600.00 dealer add on.

Yeah, but the dealer installed unit is FACTORY ENGINEERED to be TOTALLY COMPATIBLE with your new Marauder, and is installed by TRAINED PROFESSIONALS... :blah:

and should become covered by the factory bumper to bumper warranty if installed by the dealer, as I've been told anyway.
jakdad, if you can confirm it becomes part of the bumper to bumper warranty, see if you can get them to come down on the $600 price, to match Crutchfield plus whatever install cost would be.

My concern would be the possible rattles and clunks that could happen because they had to lay the dash part way out, to say nothing of little broken plastic pieces. The subsequent trips to the dealer takes too much time. You know the drill, " It's ready to go", and you still have the same problems if not more. I have become very wary of the bumper to bumper.

I'm not sure they'd have to take the dash apart to feed the cable. They would have to pull the radio fiorward to connect it. That's easy.
If the 17 yo installer at the radio shop breaks something, or you break something, the bumper to bumper isn't likely to cover it.
All up to you though.
If your dealer service deaprtment is that inept, find anothr dealer

The idea being that if it gets installed, I'll do it in my shop. You're right, I wouldn't want the kids tinkering with it. Let'em learn on their own stuff! The guy at the dealership said they would lay the dash out about 4 to 6 inches to plug in the cable. I did a search on this site about the install and thats what he did on his. I forgot who posted the install but he did a nice job.

Just make sure you are getting the OEM CD Changer installed.
There are CD Changers that are FM Modulated that will cost you $600 installed by your dealer.
When you hear what they sound like, you'll say, "I'd rather listen to my radio!"

DOH :mad2:
I had one installed in my 98 Contour.
Ripped it out after a year and got the one that went with the radio.
What a difference in the quality !!!

If anybody gives a hoot, since I had XM satellite radio installed, I never play my CD changer. If I want to listen to a particular CD, I use the single player. Actually, with all the great programming on XM, I hardly ever do that. I also NEVER listen to conventional radio.
For that $600, you can buy an XM commander that will hook up directly to the OEM head unit, using the existing port that the data cable for the CD changer uses. The adapter is available from Blitz. The sound will be clean and as good as CD. Professionally installed, you can do this for under $200 There are other options, including Delphi's Roady, not to mention the option of Siruis. You can then buy an entire year's subscription for a discounted amount (about $100), and have $300 left to spend on something else.
