I noticed when the paperwork at the dealership was written up, everything was listed as Grand Marquis and nothing I saw said Marauder. Is this common practice? Is Marauder a Grand Marquis package option? As in, my Lightning is still an F-150.

Some of my paperwork also says Grand Marquis. Some places list the Marauder as a Grand Marquis "option".

First, congratulations on your excellent taste in cars!

A Marauder is a Marauder! Of course the Marauder is based on the Grand Marquis body. But I hesitate to say the GM chassis, because the MM has so many variations and upgrades, that it is only loosely based on the GM chassis. The Marauder is also a real bonafide performance car. The first time you put your foot into the floor, you'll know that your not driving a GM! And like the Mustang GT's of the last twenty years, you have a lot of great performance mods available to you, if you want to add another 100 HP or so.

As a car, the Marauder is both unique and similar to the GM and the CV at the same time. Some people likje to compare it to the police interceptor CV. But while it does share a few components, it is different mechanically in almost every other way. Just about everything is different. You can't go by what the L-M dealers tell you, because they can be really dumb. Sometimes they treat the Marauder like its a slow selling extension of the GM line (their true love). Its their fault that L-M only produced and they only sold about 11,000 MM's in '03 and '04. L-M has sent a lot of nice cars to the ages through their inability to effectively market these unique cars, such as the Pantera, Capri, Cougar, Merkur and XR4Ti, etc.

The only complaints some owners make is that they wish they could have gotten their MM with a fatory installed supercharger (good for 340HP to 400HP), 4.10:1 gears, and the rear spoiler factory mounted. But despite these issues, the Marauder is still a very complete and excellent car. It is what it is supposed to be. A large, stylish, comfortable, performance car with almost no compromises in performance.

Enjoy your new Marauder!

That is a shame that the dealer think this is just an option package. There are certainly many who kow better.

I saw someone (I thought it was here) state "You can't spell Grand Marquis with the words Grand Ma"

Isn't this what the whole 300A-300B thingy is all about? An option package for the GM?

And, in '04, the MM got it's own frame bumber in the VIN, changed from M75 to M79, what does this mean? Is it it's own car for '04? Or still just an option package?

OK! If you have an '04 it should be listed as Marauder complete with it own vin#'s differant from the Grand Marquis. Like Mac stated M-79 now.('04) '03 were M-75 build codes.

In the real world like it or not the Marauder is an upgraded Grand Marquis.

Only the '69 & '70 Marauders were their own line.

'63, '64' & '65 Marauders were a "package" on the Mercury lineup for those years.

I know full well other Marauder owners do feel this is correct.

Facts are facts.

Get a life :baaa:

Yep, mine is a M79. Which brings me back to the fact that Marauder is a GM package, which is fine by me. I just didn't want to be titled incorrectly.

Mrs. Agent is in a deep cover operation at an insurance company and until they got smart through experience, all M75's MMs were classed as GMs and all M79's were Marauders.

They have since managed to somehow be able to differentiate between M75 GMs and MMs now though. Good news was at the time of the query, there was no difference in the rate.

My 300A title reads Marauder. That is also what State Farm Insurance Co. calls it and the operators manual does too.

As an, '04 M79 it is a stand alone "Marauder"

"Grand Marquis" shouldn't be showing up anymore.

For '03 they discovered too late that they hadn't assigned the Marauder it's own model number, so they used the Grand Marquis LS M75 code.
That does not mean that "Marauder" is a "package" on the Grand Marquis, but it does mean that for '03 fords computers will print out that the '03 Marauders are a Grand Marquis, usually not even mentioning Marauder. This has created some problems at dealerships who don't know any better when ordering parts. The engine code in the '03 VIN indicates the car is a Marauder rather than a Grand Marquis.

If there was such a thing as a "Marauder package" you'd be able to go to a dealer and order a Grand Marquis with the "Marauder package" as an option, and that's something you could not do.

Your title should indicate Marauder, (even if the car is an '03 M75 Marauder.)

The title for my '03 reads Grand Marquis. No big deal, I know what it is.

Typical Ford. It's OK though, I like my Grand Marquis just fine with its Marauder options.

When I first saw mine on the showroom floor, I thought a Town car and a Mustang had offspring.

I was right.

Dealers and insurance agents aside, the general public doesn't have a clue as to what a Marauder is... I figure that's why I have so fun driving it!

Let's face it, since so many cars are coming out with wide tires, shiny wheels and fat tailpipes from the factory or "blinged" as such after purchase, the Marauder is easily mistaken for a GM that had a few extra bucks thrown at it. This enhances the Marauder's sleeper status, even with its shiny bits.

Throw inserts and badges on it all you want, it still won't make any difference to the majority. Our satisfaction should be in owning a unique touring sedan with serious and easily available performance potential. The reward is the astonished looks of the presumptuous.

I don't sweat that my dealer's cashier doesn't know a Marauder from a GM. The mechanics know and that's all I care about.
