Hey Folks.....

What is the projected life span of our DOHC 4.6 engines with a supercharger?? I was talking with a Ford tech and he said unless you "Flog It To Death" there should be no longevity problems and that a S/C is the best and safest way to make more power!!

Also, what is the life span of these S/C's....Eaton and Vortec?? I guess the weak point is the bearings?? Do they have separate oil supplies or are they lubricated from the engine??

I suppose you can guess from these quetions I am considering "Steppin' Up"!! :cool5:

Thanks,
Marauderjack :)

Research and common sense tell me that the S/C shouldn't have much bearing on engine life. That is more a function of how you treat it and maintain it, IMHO. Unless you put a killer pulley on it, it should go 250,000 miles. As far as the blower itself, I'm not sure about the lubrication, but you can get the Ford warrantee (100,000 mi) on a Cobra or Lightning so it would seem to follow that they should also last that 1/4 million miles.

Vortech takes oil from the engine oil pan.

Properly tuned, and with regular exercise, I'm expecting 100K or better from either the Eaton or the Vortech.

Thanks Guys....

It would seem the blowers would last indefinitely if lubricated properly!!

Engine and drive train would obviously be a function of "Flogging" and upkeep!! :cool4:

I am used to 200K+ out of my CV's and don't see why the Marauder won't go that much and more!! :coolman:

...and he said unless you "Flog It To D eath" there should be...Like...Zack? Who...in the middle of a burnout let of the break pedal and oscillated his foot on the gas pedal quickly about 5-10 times...on off on off on off on off...:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

The life span is not a issue its how the car is maintained, either SC will not shorten the life span of the engine, the eaton has a self contained oil system the Vortech uses the cars engine oiling system so the oil would be changed on regular intervals, I prefer every 3000 miles, these blowers are built to go the miles I have never seen a Vortech fail, do to internal bearing failure

Since we both have the same basic KB conversion, what do you mean by being properly tuned? Is there any maintenance that you suggest from your experience other than the standard oil change?

I now have 26,000 miles on my KB car. You must have about 30,000+?

That's a bit much to go into here, John, why not give me a call when you get time? My numbers are in Bunny's database.
