Anybody tried the 130 amp alternator from PA-Performance? Seems like it would be a good idea for the guys with upgraded stereo systems. They also have an upgraded 4 ga wiring kit with integral fuse so you don't smoke the fusible links or wire in the standard system.
According to what I've seen in the service manual the OEM alternator is 100 amp.

I changed to a clutchless alternator, but I used a Cobra or Mach 1 Part. I thought about using the PA-Performance part, but dfidn't have the time to pursue it. If you do, please let me know what you learn.

Here is tech info:
http://www.pa-performance.com/
and here is the best price I've found:
http://www.50resto.com/
The price they have is probably for the standard finish. Probably have to call if you want any of the optional finishes such as chrome plated, polished, or powdercoated (5 or 6 different colors available) or if you want it with the 8-rib pulley.
Lifetime warranty, too.

Brian: Thanks for the information. I will follow up on this.
P.S. I hear that you got the other parts from TAF. I hope you are happy with them.

Look closer, they list '03 Mach1 which is the same engine as ours.

The 4G (4th generation), part number 1988 fits '96-2002 DOHC Cobra, Bullit and other DOHC N/A engines such as the Mach1 and Marauder. Not sure about the S/C Cobra.

Brian, I think that the absence of a clutch on these units will require some programming changes too. Again, I will let you know what I learn, as I learn it.

That's possible, but the '04 and late production '03s did not have the clutch. Not sure if the chip suppliers have to take that into account or not. Keep us updated.
PS: yep, I'm happy with the goodies I picked up from Todd this weekend but I sure wish I had the ones you're using instead. Nice!

Those are not for sale! Do not listen to Todd if he says otherwise!!

Yes, they are different, which is why I am using one.

Of course your alternator won't be in the original location anyway, will it....

I had a place try to rebuild my alternator (don't bother. Just get a new one. Long story) and when I got it back from them, they told me that it's a 130 AMP unit. Another thing is, that mine did have a clutch on it, but it gets removed along w/the original pulley when you install the Trilogy S/Cer kit, and as far as I know, there isn't any reprograming of the PC involved.

What about the 200 amp model that is used on the 2004 CVPI? At idle, it is at 130 amps.

Another possible option may be the new MSD alternator. Sweet looking piece!!
See it here ----> http://www.msdignition.com/

Wow, that's the first 200 amp alternator that I've ever heard of. That MSD one looks real nice, and sounds like it's built to last, however it looks like the only mounting kit that they have for Ford is different than what our mounting needs are. The one they have for Fords looks like it's probably for mustangs and Cobras which have a diffeent mounting set-up than Marauders do.
my guess is that either one of those alternators must have a $300 price tag attached.

According to what I read in the service manual it should be 100 amps. See the attached section from the service manual.

PA-Performance also has 200 amp versions available, but they are only for the 2V engines.

Hmmm, what difference would it make whether you have a 32 valve engine, or a 16 valve one?

I have the 2003 Ford shop manual, and on page 414-02-1 it clearly states that alternator for the CV, GM, and Marauder is 130 AMPS.

I think 130 Amp comes on police package. I dont know about the others. Maybe the 130 is an option on those with the towing/handling package also.

Nope, that's not what the Ford shop manual says. It says that ALL alternators for these three cars are 130 AMP. And this is the book that the service department at your Ford dealer uses for the 2003's.

Having replaced the alternator on my Father's 01 Vic, and confirming on my own vehicle, I can tell you with 100% certainty that the 98-04 Vics, and Marauders use 130 amp alternators. The only real difference being the clutch on the Marauder alternators. The 98-02 (maybe 03) police cars use 135 amp alternators. 5 amps is really nothing, but that's peak output. The idle output on the police model is much higher. Now the 04 (and maybe 03, I just can't remember exactly) police cars use a 200 amp alternator. You can tell these apart by the curved shape on the case. The police alternators will not fit in the Marauder because of the intake. They will fit in the crown vic, but I think you have to swap the upper bracket on the intake and voltage regulator connector from a police car.
