Anyone have a Taurus or The Dreaded Sable? My Dad has a '99 Taurus with the Vulcan 3.0. It's in need of an ATF change, and he's misplaced the owner's manual. Can anyone answer these questions three...?

Question the First: What kind of fluid does it use...Mercon V? 80W-90? 3-in-1?
Second Q: How many quarts for a pan-drop and filter?
3rd Question: Is the pan gasket re-usable?

Many thanks...

Heck,

There's even a site for the Yugo.

I belive it is www.yunogo.com

They also have pics of the little known station wagon concept vehicle called the Wego.

I have the answer to all your questions --

Locate a nearby establishment that services automobiles. In a pinch, Kwik Lube or Jiffy Lube will do.

Tell the nice man who greets you, you need the fluid changed on your Taurus's transaxle. Go inside and make yourself a cup of coffee and thumb through the old magazines until the nice man tells you your car is ready.

Pay him.

Although Donny Carlson is probably right , I have had a different experience with my significant others Explorer recently. I took it in for an oil change and the young gentleman that replaced the dipstick back in the engine after "showing " me my oil level, broke the dipstick off in the dipstick tube and now this piece is in my oilpan . According to my research , it can't come into contact with the bottom end's moving parts as there is a windage tray that prevents this .

To say the least , I was livid.

They have paid for the labour at my local shop to try and retrieve this piece ( no luck ) and have covered the cost of a new dipstick as well as provided me with letter stating that they'll cover any engine damage caused by this errrant piece in the oil pan.

I always take my MM to my Ford dealer for service and I will now take the Explorer there as well .
Not only do I get the confidence in knowing that a Ford trained mechanic is working on my car, it's cheaper , if you can believe it !

The "quick lube" place charges me $ 41.00 Canadian for Castrol GTX and the Dealer was $ 27.00 for Ford Motorcraft oil .
I'll never go back and now I'll always go to the dealer

I'll see that and raise you five.

I know of many a SHO customer/owner/user who has lost the shim bucket spacer tool right down the oil drain back passage!! Yup, stright down the shoot. Right to the pan.

Doesn't do much harm other than bang around maybe. Oil is filtered fine. But there are more than one 'new owner' in for a surprise if he ever drops the pan! Wonder how they finished the the shim work? Me? I had a spare tool....lol

You made my point for me. Why roll around on the ground, bust your knuckles, and get tranny fluid stains on your shirt when you can pay somebody do it while you sit around the waiting room farting into the chair cushions. And the added benefit of not caring that you lost the owner's manual.

[Y]ou can pay somebody do it while you sit around the waiting room farting into the chair cushions.

Note to self: Avoid the waiting room at Team Ford when Donny has been around.

Another note to self: Wrap Donny in plastic before he sits in the "S****t "P****t".
