View Full Version : Locking Center Console
I am in need a locking center console. I would love to keep the stock look.
Has anyone come across one or a kit for one?
Thanks,
Dan

Our console is from a Lincoln, maybe their cover came with a lock built in.
Five O,
That's just not funny. :P

PA is no bargin.
OK, back on topic.
Keep your eyes open for something like this, ok, guys? I know that we aren't allowed to talk about a certain thing that we like to "carry" in our cars. My thinking is that a locking console would be ideal for carrying "it."
Also, we had a thread here a long time ago that showed other options for carrying "it" in the car. Does anyone recall which forum that was in and what a key word was so I can do a search?

Thaniks,
DanThe console and glovebox are among the first places searched!
There are outfits that make g*n concealment compartments in cars that are very difficult to find. See if you can locate one of these builders.

Thaniks,
DanYou might consider keeping it in a briefcase which you lock in the trunk when you're not in the car.
Thanks Guys,
Hmm. I guess I can do a serach on "g** concealment compartments." Good idea. Thanks.
In the meantime, please share if you see anything yourself.

Check your state laws on concealed compartments in cars. Because of the proliferation of drug smuggling a non-factory concealed compartment is illegal in some states -- like California. Just be aware.
Great advice. Will do.

This thread brings up a valid point. There are 43 states which legally allow
carry and this needs to be discussed. As there are places that prohibit carry in these states you need a secure place to leave it in your vehicle.
My $.02 worth here.
The console is a poor choice for storage. When a car is burglarized it's the first place bad guys looks. Second is the glove box and a lock will not even slow down someone with a screwdriver.
There are specially made heavy duty steel boxes that will fit under a car seat. They can be opened via a hidden button or by key and are much more secure than a locked glove box/console. The drawer then slides out. You have to remove the seat in order to screw it down but that also means some one has to remove the seat to remove the box.
If you're intersted I'll do the reasearch for prices and places to buy.
Here's one that fits inside a console and can be locked.

Try this link. In the search box type in UVM. It's what I have mounted on the driver's side console of my MM. Works real well.

Thanks for your 2 cents. I have a friend who is an NRA instructor and is very up on the laws in mine and neighboring states. I would always research the laws of every state I planned on travelling through and to prior to considering bringing my "little friend."
I would interested in just such an item. Any further info that you have will be really appreciated.

PS: Thanks are also in order to the other guys who have provided these links. The prodcuts look good.

They have safes that fit either in the console or under the seat in several different sizes. The console model sounds good if it would fit.

Concealed weapons are slightly popular here, why worry about getting searched? Just have a license for it and you're ok? In SC if you're pulled over and have a weapon in the car the first thing you say is "Here is my license and I also have a such and such in/under the so and so, here is my license for that." You're not giving the officer permission to search your car so no worries. I think?

My point was that certain states have places you cannot carry, such as a post office or bar. Your option is to break the law or leave it in your vehicle. It's just the responsible thing to do to secure it from theft when you leave it behind.
I'm all for CCW and you are 100% correct about how to interact with a LEO.
Lou,
Thanks for the clarification.
In CT you are not allowed to "store" in your car. I don't know if a bar or post office is a legal place for CCW but I can see how it could all get dicey pretty quickly.
I'll have to look into this more thoroughly.
