Mid-Size sedan slated for showrooms next year. I don't quite get where this fits into Mercury, I mean, is this the cheaper option to the Montego or a more expensive alternative or somewhere in between...

From what I've heard: cheaper, entry-level alternative to Montego. No AWD. Still makes no sense to me, though. Looks very similar. Wonder how it compares size-wise.

Replaces the dreaded Sable?

Mercury is desperate to attract a younger crowd...

Looks like a 300C from the windshield back...but with a lot better looking front end...IMNSHO

Or is it a re-skined Mystaque? It'a all good if they improve the dependability from 80K to 150K plus.

Opted for the 100K extended waranty on our old Mystaque, and in the long run would have been better off with out it. Waranty repairs would have been $200 cheaper out of pocket than what the waranty cost us. After the waranty ran out it seemed that the car needed major repairs every three months. That kind of experiance does not foster owner loyalty.

Lucky for Mercury we have had good luck with the 3 GM's that we have owned in the past. 2 made it past to the 200K mark, the other still going strong after it was sold with 145K on the clock.

I believe the intent is to compete in the Accord/Altima/Mazda 6 size class. The car should be smaller and cheaper than the Montego.

I think its a pretty decent looking car. If they price it right and the quality is there, I could see it doing well. I just wish they had a 240-260hp V-6 ready to drop into it. In any case, I'm glad to see that they are not giving up on Mercury yet.

I hear that plus its new Ford counterpart will be available with AWD.

Nice looking car but it looks like they just pasted a Mercury logo on the grille of an Audi A6.

This is the car that will share its platform with the Ford Fusion(Futura), and Lincoln Zephyr. It is built on the Mazda 6 chassis. Front and all-wheel drive will be offered.

Just what is needed. another FWD based offering.

Maybe Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury are just keeping the future good stuff a real secret....
