Well the other day I pulled into the local car show and the first car I noticed was, what appeared to be a 2003 Mercury Marauder. So I wakled over to the guy and said "Man awsome car you have there, I plan on picking up one within the next to weeks." Then he begain to tell me this was a "promo car" made in 2001. He told me it had about 500 HP w/ a 21g fuel capacity. I didnt really believe a word he said. Have you guys ever herd of anything like this?

Did he say "promo" or "concept" ?
There was a concept car built in 2001 if I remember correctly.

The car was at a Waltham Ma, car show at Pinis Pizza. The car looked to me like a stock 2003 MM. He had the hood popped and it looked stock 2 me. Not like it produced 500hp....

Sounds like the owner had added BULLSH_T injection to get the 500hp!

I thought Ford destroyed all the pre-production Marauders. There was a picture of them in various pieces sitting in a lot, posted here a long while back.
Babcock told me that there were about 24 pre-production test cars that were sold to the public via auction. However, they would have had the same 302 hp engine that the production cars have. These were the cars that travelled the country showing up at events prior to regular production.

The convertible was sold on Ebay a while back. The Convert. was not road worthy and can't be registered.. It is just a colectors item.

Was that 500 hp to the rear wheel? Wow, I didn't know that rolling your own cigarettes could produce that much power. Dang, and with alcohol injection I bet he could get another 100 hp. That may explain the 21 g brew capacity. :dunno:
