"TracQuest is incredibly excited to announce its first Driver Education (DE) event at Barber Motorsports Park (“Barber”) on Saturday-Sunday, November 27th-28th, 2004. Barber is an incredible new track built by dairy industry mogul George Barber, who spared no expense on the track or the facilities (including repaving it twice since the track opened 2 years ago to make sure the track surface is perfect). As a result, Barber has quickly become known as one of the best tracks in the country, with 16 challenging turns packed into 2.3 miles. Many feel that the facilities are even better than VIR’s, an actual country club that has set the standard since it was revamped several years ago. Barber is located in Birmingham, AL, which is only 2 hours from Atlanta and about 6 hours from Cincinnati, making it accessible from a wide area. A detailed map and other information about the track can be found on the track’s web site (http://www.barbermotorsports.com/). Even if you live fairly far away, Barber is well worth the drive. You can sign up for either Saturday or Sunday or both days.
Unlike most car club events, which are competitive and require 5 point harnesses, fire extinguishers and often roll bars, this is a non competitive event, so you don’t need any special equipment for your car – just a helmet, which you should try to obtain for yourself because rentals will not be available (a few loaners will be available, but there aren’t many). Instruction is provided by experienced Club and SCCA racers/instructors."
