View Full Version : A Little Help - Old Order Guide?

I need a little help, if anyone can. I've mentioned before that my Marauder came with a mini spare. It was loose in the trunk when I bought the car. I've been getting the run-around from the dealer.

Does anyone still have an early Order Guide? Mine is dated November '02 (I think) and it says mini spare. I'm wondering what the previous guide said.

"My" spare is a 16" mini. That can't be right...

PS: Anyone else have a mini spare" If so, what size?

Any help appreciated.

If your car is equipped with Traction Control, (TC on/off switch located to the left of the column) it should have a mini-spare. The size is an 18" rim with a T155/80D18 tire.

If your car was produced prior to the introduction of Traction Control, it should have a "termporary spare" which is an unpolished road wheel (18x8) and a Front tire (235/50R18).

There are no other spare sizes approved for Marauder.

Brian,

Thanks. That's what my research led me to believe. Still looking for proof.

No TC and a build date of 10/18/02.

Dealer thinks I'm crazy...

Macon,

I believe the brochure has the full size spare listed. Also the owners manual on the bottom of Page 144 says the spare may be used as a regular tire...that ain't a temporary spare! Also the Quick Reference Guide also states full sized spare..

Wayne,

You may be right...

I don't have the brochure with me, but I just went and got the manual from the glove box:

"Spare Tire Information
The spare tire can be used as a spare or a regular tire."

That certainly sounds like a full sized spare to me!

I don't know why I didn't notice that before...

I always find exactly what I'm looking for here.

Just another reason why this site is so cool.

Thanks to everyone that helped. With the owner's manual (duh!), and now the order guide, I don't see how the dealer can continue to play dumb.

You know if you collect 4 of these, get them polished you have a set of nice rims and tires (let alone just the tires).

Dumb dealer!

I called Mercury Customer Service. Talked to a real nice young woman. Took her a while but she was able to find my car in the system and confirm it was built with full size spare.

She puts me on hold and calls dealer to talk to Sales Mgr. Comes back and says all is well: he will get me the correct spare and will be calling.

Sales Mgr. calls with different story: Marauder can't have full size spare because tires are unidirectional!

I'm like, WTF?! Don't give me that. Where's my spare?!

Now Sales Mgr. says he has to talk to Mercury Customer Service to see what's what.

God save us from moronic car dealers...

Well, I guess I'll have to call my dealer and tell him to take back the full-size spare MINE came with and issue me the bi-directional donut...

You can't believe what the manual says, cuz then don't update them. It says in the MM or the Town car Manuel that the radio has different sounds, like concert, stadium… It doesn’t! Then took that out of the radio because of the old old buyers thinking their radio went bad! They kept going back to the dealers wanting them to fix their radio (sound) instead of just reading the owners manual to see what was wrong or right! LOL! :D

For the record, Marauder tires are bi-directional, not uni-directional (I think you already know that Macon Marauder). The EXACT SAME tire is used for Right Front, Left Front, and "Full Size" temporary spare.

Rear tires are also bi-directional, just a different size than the front.

Brian,

Yes I did. But thanks for bringing that up. I left this out of the previous posting: according to Mr. Sales Mgr. Marauder tires CAN'T BE ROTATED! Part of his reasoning that I HAD to have a mini spare.

If the 2004 order guide draft is correct, blue is "out", Dark Red and Silver Birch are "in", along with black, and the upgraded sound system becomes an option.

Mine has a full size spare. On the same forged alloy wheel, only not polished. The spare size is 235/50/18. Want some pictures to show them? Mabye they can find it 'hiding' on a shelf or somewhere else around the dealer.

the Ford system has all the information of your car's build, exactly what went ito it at the factory. The dealer can't skirt that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've sold or have for sale three other Marauders with an incorrect minni spare because someone in the dealership has a Marauder with four extra non-polished full size spares to use as winter wheels

Yeah! Pics would be great if not too much trouble. I'm just getting more run-around from the dealer...

They say they've sold a total of three. Maybe someone is starting a collection.

Hey Macon,

In the Photo Gallery.. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/gallery/details.php?image_id=18

shows Logan's spare and looks just like mine... Want me to drive down and show them Saturday??;)

Wayne (03 Merc),

Thanks guy. I saw that pic, but was hoping for one "unsheathed." I hope to have this resolved by Friday. Mercury customer service gave me at least some hope.

I'll bet the problem is the classic "Who's gonna pay for it?" From my seat it's a dealer issue. But they may try to wriggle out by claiming the car came to them with the little spare. Would it then be a warranty claim?

Dunno...

Reviving an old thread here to say that this site is so darn cool!

Parts Mgr says he has my new conventional spare! Thanks to all who helped and gave advice. Especially looking97233 who provided pics. I think that's what finally swayed them and convinced them that I knew what I was talking about.

Gotta love this site!
