So I'm driving back to Chicago, from Lidio's. Construction on 94 just past Detroit has things pretty backed up. One lane is open, we're crawling along. Finally the construction barrel's are removed, and speed picks up. 3 or 4 cars are flying, I'm one of them. Just as I go through an overpass I see one of Michigan's finest on the shoulder, high up, on the entrance ramp. Everyone slows down, and the trooper gets on the highway. He pulls up next to me and then behind me. On comes his single, giant, roller. I pull over. He gets out, and asks me for my license and registration. I hand them over. He says " You're in a hurry to get back to Chicago, you were going (deleted) MPH" He's looking at me, waiting for me to say something. I said "I'm coming back from Mount Clemens, I had a dyno-tune this morning" He says " Really, how many horsepower?" I say "440" he smiles and asks if I have a clean record and what I need all that horsepower, for as he goes back to the squad car. He comes back in a few minutes and hands me my license and registration (no ticket) " Have a nice day" he says. "I appreciate it" I said, as I pulled away and set my cruise on 70.... I've been fortunate to get out of a few tickets with my MM, and each time I've told the officer the truth.....

Lucky dog!
You did the right thing, in my opinion. A lot of folks forget that police officers are human beings and have probably hot-dogged down a highway at some point, and they probably don't appreciate (or, perhaps they secretly get a real kick out of hearing) dumb made-up excuses. I'm a firm believer in taking responsibility for one's actions, and if you were speeding, it's best to just fess up, I'm sure the officer will appreciate not having to sit there through a long drawn out fantasy.

Very well Said!!!!!!!!
The only time the truth ever set me free was when I asked the LEO if it would before I told him my speed. :)
Even then I still got 5 over. Of course, we both knew that if I fought it I would get a nolle.
Still, never make an admission of guilt that can be used against you in court unless you negotiate for something first. Perhaps, in a bubble or another world the truth will always work but the world be live is not set up to save the truthtellers.
Regrettably, it is built to save the ones with the best lawyers, the most money or power, etc. etc.
