my 04 mm has no auto parking brake release, but the manual says it has one. my 97 g. mar. has it, but on this one i have to pull the handle. i also do not have an auto gas cap release. Are these standard?

3 Posts? Welcome to the site! Mercury had 2 versions of the MM in 2003, the early 300A and the later 300B. Essentially, the 300B's got traction control and optional heated seats, but lots of other goodies were "de-contented", among them the auto parking brake release, gas cap release, and full size spare.

I imagine the 2004 equipment mirrors the 2003 300B stuff.

If you search & sniff around here, you'll find all sorts of detail on this as well as folks who have figured out how to re-content their 300Bs.

I have a 300B... and my owner's manual has stickers covering up the text on the parking brake release and gas cap release. Maybe Ford ran out of stickers?

Anyhow, I think I really only miss the parking brake release (my '78 Marquis has it!) and the full size spare.

Enjoy your ride.

Greg

Unfortunitely that is standard on most 2003 300B's and all 2004 Marauders.

That's odd. Does the parking brake release automatically when you put your Marauder in drive? But the FMC has been known to do strange things.

Do you have to push the parking brake all the down to release it as well as you do to engage it?

No kick-down required, it is triggered from a pneumatic switch near the bottom of the column at the neutral safety switch, put'er in gear and "ker-chiss", the brake releases- forward AND reverse! Merc did some cool things back in those days... The '69 even has a stock third brake light, in the center of the full width taillight.
