My '04 Marauder already has an oil cooler for the tranny (between the condenser and radiator). Would there be any benefiit to installing an aftermarket cooler in front of the condenser and in serise with the factory one?

You might want to look at the B&M transmission cooler #70298. It comes as a complete unit and includes a thermostat & fan. The fan comes on automatically when the trans fluid gets too hot. I mounted mine in front of the radiator where the horn(s) once were. ( I moved the horns lower down. ) I really like the way it works...I've had mine come on while idling after a 1/4 mile run at the dragstrip. From everything I've heard and read...the cooler you keep your transmission fluid the longer your trans will last.

I got this same cooler but haven't installed it yet. Glad to hear you're getting good results from it.

Do our cars have a "in the radiator" heater/cooler like many of the cars in the past did?? :dunno:

No. The OEM cooler is located between the radiater and air conditioner condenser.

Thanks FordNut.....
That's what I thought but someone mentioned that in my "Making Oil....Part II" thread.....possibly the trans cooler is leaking into the engine oil supply!!??
Trans fluid is OK but oil level seems to rise in time!!

Ditto^^^ Actually the OEM trans cooler is fairly large...it suprised me when I first checked it out. I was expecting the standard "one pass through the bottom of the radiator" deal.

Just a little follow-up info
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a little over 104 degrees here today on the valley floor. I drove for a couple of hours on the freeway, in town, and up to a little over 7000 feet in the Sierra. With the 10x3/4x11 stacked-plate design transmission cooler mounted on the a/c condenser my operatng temps for the transmission have dropped 25-30 degrees. I have the Stallion torque converter and Reinhart level II package in my transmission.
And BTW, I can't say enough good things about the level II package on the transmission. It is a wonderful addition for the peace of mind you get of not wondering if your transmission is going to take a dump on you. You can bark the tires when you feel like it or not, the shifts are solid with absolutely no slip, and sort of, well, just perfect. After a month of living with it I'm sure: it was well worth the money.
After 1000+ miles on the after-market oil cooler there seems to be about a 35 degree drop in tranny temperature, on average, from what I was seeing with just the OEM cooler. I have a digital tranny temp guage (Nordskog) with the sender mounted in the port in the tranny. I live in a hot climate, drive with the OD off mainly in city traffic, and was getting temps in the 195-210 range. Now they range from 160-175.

I rode around with Lidio in my car after the Stallion was installed, and the shift pionts and T/C lockup times were tweaked. We monitored the tranny temps during the city street romp testing and I was surprised to see how hot the tranny got. Not in the danger zone, but far hotter than before these mods.
I tend to drive city streets with the OD off, and I know I am slowly killing my tranny with these temps on those cruise nights.
Next spring, Lidio is putting the cooler add in my car, and I am sure this will alleviate premature wear due to heat and my driving habits.

Just installed a B & M super cooler on my commuter 99 Ford Taurus. It looked so cool that I got a B&M Supercooler #70264 7-3/8HX11WX1-1/2D Trans Cooler and will install it on the MM and will give detail and pics when done...:woohoo:

The Marauder ATF/PS cooler is the same one on all the Panthers used since 1998-up.
It's a Long (brand name) 24,000 GVW thermostatic bypass, stacked plate cooler.
Have you actually checked the tranny fluid temp before considering purchasing a second cooler?
Mine reads about 180-185F consistently. I do this via my datalogger (you know, hooking up the evil laptop to the OBD-2 port and putting the laptop aside and letting it record the tranny fluid temp sensor readings). :D

Installed the cooler yeaterday (Hayden 514). Attached it to the cross braces in front of the A/C condenser with heavy duty zip ties. Install was easy took about 2 hours. Hardest was locating the hoses so they wouldn't rub on anything.
