Going to the tint shop tomorrow. The darkest we can have in Texas is 35 on the front. What are you guys using on back glasses? We want it darker than front but still have to see out, otherwise Limo tint would be fine.

Limo tint, 5% in the back only. (illegal here on the front 3 windows)

I have no problems seeing out, day or night.

It gets way too hot sitting in the sun...

Thanks Guys,
Does a larger number indicate a lighter tint? Danny's car has 20% on the back and I guess the front has factory tint. These things can be confusing.

Yes the higher the % number the lighter the tint. When you go in to get your car tinted ask about the different tints. I have HP(?) tint on my windows, supposedly has metal in it to block more of the UV light. I will have to check my invoice at home if you are interested.

The % tint is the % of light transmitted. (lower % = less light transmitted)
Most states have a 35% MINIMUM requirement. Also, remember that the factory glass has some tint in it to begin with...so if you have 35% tint added to your glass you will NOT be legal. Most people don't care about this detail but in good 'ole Maryland I've been pulled over and written up for excess tint on the side windows...its not fun trying to remove the tint in order to pass the inspection notice.

I did notice, in my opinion, when I got mine done that it was not as dark as the normal tint with the same %.

Check with your local DMV on what the limits are.

e.g. in NY...

Question
What are the laws in NYS about tinted vehicle windows?

Answer
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark.
The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light.
Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window.
This law also applies to rear windows unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides.
The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.

It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law.
It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.

If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law.
Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center.

...its not fun trying to remove the tint in order to pass the inspection notice.

Just a handy tip on removing tint indiscriminately; if you leave some wet rags in your car on a hot day, the windows will fog up and the tint will almost peel itself off, taking the glue with it.

I tinted my CV myself a couple times, and found this is the easiest way to 'start over'. The glue is the hardest part.

As I stated above, the limit in Texas is 35 for the front. I'm afraid if I left wet rags in my car on a hot day, I might have a mildew problem complete with odor. The other side of the coin is I pay $175.00 one time with life time warranty.

Yup...lower number means that much light passes through. 5% blocks 95% of the light....20% blocks 80% of the light and so on.

The factory tint is what they call privacy glass...I think it's like 95%.

From the voice of experience, trust me, you don't want to go any lower than 20% on the rear windows and rear windsheild........ if your state law allows it.

5% limo tint is nice, but it's just too dark.

My state allows me 35% all around. I have a medical waiver. And it's actually as dark as one really needs to go in any situation.

Another point we often overlook........ if you're backing out of a driveway one night and run over some lady walking her dog, the real dark tint is going to work against you big time as far as liability. If you don't see her, it's an accident. If you don't see her because of limo tint, her family will own you and your insurance company.

Here's 35% all around....... then consider 20% or 5% real carefully.

Checking with the MVD is a good suggestion. You can also check with your local PD. If you frequent another state you may also want to check their laws. Because you reside in state 'a' does not relieve you from the laws in state 'b'.

Any tint on the front door windows (with factory tint) is illegal in NY. Most P.D."s have tint meters. The factory tint on a CVPI just passes the NYS law. There is no requirement on the rear doors or windshield. IMO I gets difficult to see at night with any tint lower than 35%.
