I think I have the Marauder with the highest mileage. (54,000) and I have a few questions maybe some of you could answer. Do I need to be replacing anything? Fluids, cables, exc. And I just put in a jet performance chip and the car is going slower, what gives? It would run constant 15.1s and 15.3s. Now it runs 15.9 and the best was 15.5. It cooled down for an hour and still ran only 15.9. Whats with this chip? :burn: :(

Welcome to the site. RF and others will probably be along shortly to answer your questions.

Hi,

I can't help with the chip but I think the service interval recommendations are in the owner's manual.

You may want to do a tranny fluid change even if it is not specified. (I can't remember off hand).

If you don't have the manual let me know, I'll copy that section for you.

There's a gent with over 90K right now.

54K isn't too bad though.

Not sure on the chip....you'd be best off going with Lidio's or Dennis' setup.

Do I need to be replacing anything? Fluids, cables, exc. You don't say what, if any, work you may have had done already, but the following should be done (at minimum):

Transmission fluid and filter (should be done every 30,000, if not sooner)
Fuel filter (should be done every 30,000)
Serpentine belt (replace if small cracks are beginning)
Rear end fluid (limited-slip friction modifier does wear out)
PCV valve

And I just put in a jet performance chip and the car is going slower, what gives?

No disrespect intended, but there are only a few tuners who know how to PROPERLY tune a Marauder...and Jet isn't one of them...Dennis Reinhart and Lidio (at Alternative Auto) are 2 who are also sponsors here...

If you are sure you followed their installation instructions exactly, call Jet and ask them WTF...if they can't help you, see if you can get your money back, then call Dennis or Lidio...

Here is my service schedule.
You can modify it as you like...

Motor Oil and Filter Change - every 3,000 miles
Wiper Blades - replace every 6 months
K&N Air Filter - Wash Every 15,000 miles
ATX Oil change - every 15,000 miles
Rear Axle Oil change - every 15,000 miles
Fuel Filter - replace very 15,000 miles
Coolant Flush - every 24,000 miles
Serpentine Belt - replace every 36,000 miles
PCV Valve - replace very 60,000 miles (Dealer will do it for FREE)

Now fluids such as Power Steering Oil and Brake Fluid,
should be changed/flushed every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

A/C should be run during the winter months as well, so set your
temp control to Auto and the A/C will cycle on and off
as needed to dry the air.
Remember A/C can act as a dehumidifer as well...

Did I miss anything ???
Flux Capacitor ?

**PCV Valve is considered an Emissions device, so its service
is covered under the Emissions Warranty**

^^^ This is good advice. The A/C compressor in my Lightning went bad, just from being stored through the winter. Ford replaced it, free of charge, under warranttee. At that time I was advised that running the window defrost will also engage the compressor, as well...

Did you try running it, without the chip, on the same day? That would give you a true apples to apples. There's a big difference, between 15.2 and 15.9 - I would think even on the street, you would feel that.

Here's a thought: Drive the car, hard. Pull the chip. Drive the car, hard. Put the chip back in. Drive the car, hard. You should definitely be able to tell in there's a big performance drop, from that.

Someone made a post that they had over 92,000 miles on their Marauder.

I've heard bad things about Jet chips, and I'd never recommend them.

Thank you for the advice everyone and I though 54K was a lot. I will change the tranny fluid and rear soon. I had a problem with the chip and haven't taken it out because last time I did with someone who knew what they were doing, the car wouldn't start. It thought we were trying to steal it ans so I had to get three new keys. Is the computer tuner any good?

Is the computer tuner any good?

The Superchips Custom Tuning 9100 is the cat's-ass of tuners...there is none better.

Another nice feature of using a hand-held tuner instead of a chip, is that the tuner doubles as a code reader, so you can read and clear your own MILs...

I will change the tranny fluid and rear soon.

If you haven't changed the trans fluid at all until now, I'd recommend a complete fluid flush, not just a pan-drop.

There are a couple of ways to do this:

1) Find a shop with a T-Tech machine (not a Jiffy-Lube, though... )
2) Do it yourself, it's not hard, just messy.

The T-Tech machine will get approx 99% of the old fluid out, but you have to watch the operator to make absolutely sure he puts only Mercon V in it. You should also have them drop the pan and change the filter. This'll cost you about $150 altogether...

Doing it yourself involves disconnecting the cooler output line and slipping on a piece of clear flexible hose, to direct the fluid into a bucket. Start the car and let it idle while the fluid pumps out...when the fluid begins to sputter, shut it off, reconnect the cooler line, drop the pan and change the filter, then refill the fluid (approx 19 quarts). A variation on this method is to keep filling the transmission while the old fluid is pumping out, until you've put 19 quarts in, ensuring that all the old fluid has been replaced with fresh. This way will cost you about $60 for the fluid and $15 for the filter (the gasket's re-usable).

Thank you I will get on that soon and get a microtuner very soon. :burn:
