View Full Version : Look at this Grill... The Best Ever
Folks, the following pictures do not even do this grill justice...

I started out with a badgeless grill and with proper motivation from a few members here, I ended up with this spectacle of a grill.
There are 344, yes, three hundred and forty four Swarovski Crystals carefully embedded into the grill.
First I made a template for the spacing of the crystals. After making small marks as to their placement, I drilled 344 1/16" pilot holes. As if my arm wasnt tired enough, I had to find a drill bit that had the same angle as the crystal. I ended up using a Vermont American 1/2" countersinking bit. Drilling just enough without going too deep proved the most challenging, but the holes turned out perfectly. After the holes were drilled, I glued the crystals in using Goop Adhesive. The glue has proved itself after a few 100+mph blasts!
This is definitely the most involved project to date, but my god was it worth it. In the daytime, when the sun hits this thing, the car is like a moving disco. You really have to see this thing in person to get the full effect. I was at a car show last night and the attention the grill got was unbelievable! I was standing next to the car with a flashlight to 'light it up' for everyone. When headlights or flourescent street lights hit it, there are no words to describe what bling bling it gives off!
All in all it took about 15 hours to make, but it was worth it.
Special thanks to Rick Miller (Slowpoke) for getting me a killer deal on the crystals. Also thank you to Big Joe P & JrzyGirl for motivation. And one more thing....
Logan, you got nothin' on me now... Pimping aint easy!

Oh yeah? Well, I'm doing the same thing to mine except with Christmas lights and I will have them spell out messages like "Get out of the fast lane," and somesuch.
Wait a second - get one of those marquee signs used at movie theaters and program whatever you want into it . . .. Now THERE's an idea. Nwo that that fad is over I bet one can be had very cheaply!

Total cost in materials are as follows:
2 Grills: $260 from TheDealer
Crystals: $54.20 for 576 (Thanks Slowpoke)
Not that expensive, huh!
Someone asked if these would be available and the answer now is no.
I am very affordable oriented, and with the uniqueness and time that goes into these, it probably wouldnt be worth it to anyone.
For example, If someone absolutely had to have a crystal grill, I would have to get $850 for it.
You see, I like having unique things, so it would have to be worth it monetarily for me to make another.
I had mentioned taking a break from making badgeless grills some time ago; disregard that now, Im ready to start production again.
I need 2 grills and $150 to do one.

Zack...you should have a grill for every season, and holiday. Thanksgiving is coming up...you need some type of Jack-o-lantern grill, you've got christmas covered, how about easter? You need some more pink in there. Labor day and memorial day you could have the american flag, red, white, and blue. As you said...anything is possible. Cool idea man. Unique is good.

Zack, you have entirely to much time on your hands. If you have some spare time to give, I have plenty around my house that needs attention. Nice grille dude. You are definitely the KING OF BLING. Your friend Peter doesn't have anything on you now. :stooges:

One of my interests is close up magic (I am terrible at it, but find the art of illusion very interesting), and one classic illusion uses this device, called a "Hot Rod" in the biz:
http://www.penguinmagic.com/images/products/medium/1030a.jpg (http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=247#)
The illusion is this rod with six different color "gems" is changed to all one color randomly selected by the observer, then back again. I actually own one of these.
Anywho, my first reaction to the new grille was that Zack had made it out of Hot Rods.

Hey Zack, I am getting ready to head out the door and take Smokie out for a ride (have the day off today) before I do I wanted to share some thoughts with you....The Crystal Grill is not for me I am too conservative in nature, but as a man that has worked hard using his hands all his life, I respect and admire the skill and creativity that went into the making.
You can turn a wrench and get dirty with the best of them and as a result you have one of the fastest Marauders in existence, you have installed many mods for other guys and I heard no complaints.
I have been fixing broken stuff (including cars) since I was 12 and I'm good at fixing; but never really been creative. You are good at fixing and creating...you have talent. So while your latest grill may not be for me... I salute and respect your talent.
