I thought I used to have a link or website somewhere that listed some of the differences between the various MM models: 300A, 300B, and 2004. Does anyone have something on this information?

I ask because I am trying to figure out a used MM I see everyday. It is listed as a 2003 and has the map pockets on the front of the seats. Just trying to figure out if this is a 300A and if so, is traction control available on that?

I have not been able to get a hold of the owner. The only thing they have listed on the made up window sticker is a "Retail Book Value" of $24,000. The car is listed with only 5,700 miles on it, but looks a little rough for that few miles. The interior is pretty dirty, some scuffs on both corners of the rear bumper, and couple of paint chips on the deck lid. Not sure I would want to pay anywhere close to that amount.

Any thoughts and input (and links to the information for differences in model year options) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Where in Iowa are you?

Do a search on 300A and 300B and about a zillion threads will come up. That should give you all the information you could ever want, and then several hours more.

This is a 300A and no, it's not worth what they are asking especially given the marks on it. 300As do not have traction control. If it's scuffed up I wouldn't offer anything above $18K because you're going to need to repaint the deck lid or face rust prematurely.

And THAT will cost you several hundred samoleons.

That is kind of what I was thinking in regards to this car. It would also need a full clean on the interior and probably new tires.

But that is all a mute point as I want TC, anyway. The 300B comes with TC, right? And, of course, the 2004+?

I live just north of Ames, IA (home of ISU Cyclones).

Yes the B has TC. They deleted approx. 8 other items to pay for it.

Yes, EXCEPT (there's always an exception when this subject comes up! (-:) if it's a pre-decontented 300B like mine, made for approximately 40 manufacturing days in late '02. I have every 300A item (hood light; map pockets; locking gas door; auto parking brake release, etc.) plus the TC. However, because of the TC I have the mini spare in back.

Thanks,Eric, with the HUGE discounts out there, you can get a new one for that! I know, because I just did. The deal was just over 24K + 6% PA tax. You get $6,000 back from Ford, for starters + whatever the dealer is willing to add. Remember, there's also VERY attractive finance rates, which, in the long run will make the new one a better price than a used MM. There's plenty of 'em on dealer lots, but don't wait, because production has ended, and you'll never get a better chance at one. :soapbox:

Thanks for the input. I like the sound of that and wished it was in the cards for me right now, but the timing isn't right yet. Too much on the plate right now: planning on another kid, need to refinance house, and looking for full time employment instead of this contracting stuff.... Once those 3 things are taken care of, I will move forward on my purchanse.

Don't over rate the value of the TC. It's nice to have but nothing to die for or break a deal over.

This is simply my opinion.
