4:10's I guess are okay according to the concensus
on the forum here. My question is what is the
difference at hiway speed between the 410's and
430's?
I know the speed difference is 15 percent with the
410's, but would 430 make that much of a deal say
if I wanted to run 70-75mph on the freeway?
I like the idea of the 4:30's cause it will make
a big difference from a dead stop on launching.
I am gonna have Dennis do the gears, plugs and
stat hopefully next week if the hurricanes will
give us a break. Oh yeah the pulleys also....
Any enlightenment you can give me will be greatly appreicated..
Thanks Guys..

Al:
The difference between 3.55 and 4.30 is approx 21%...so you'll be running about 420 RPM higher at 70 MPH...(vs the 3.55s)
It's become the consensus of the board that 4.10 is the best all-around ratio for the car...but if your driving consists of a higher percentage of city vs. highway (say 75/25), then the 4.30s should be OK...

I rememeber someone, maybe BillyGMan...saying that the rpm difference of the 4.10's to the 4.30'sat highway speed was about 150rpm's higher with the 4.30's.

Al, If you value performance at the dragstrip, then 4.30's or 4.56's are a logical choice, with, in my opinion, a negligible tradeoff in driveability, especially with a rev-happy motor like the 4.6 4V.
If it's more of a daily driver than a weekend/dragstrip toy, then go with the 4.10's. I can't see 4.30's or 4.56's offering much on the street where traction is obviously limited.

You're wrong Bowtie, he was referring to the difference in the 4.10's to the 4.30's.
BillyGMan said this....and I knew I remembered it.

I've got the 4.30's and do 90% of my driving in the city. The other 10% is on local highways where I cannot push it much beyond what is legal. The gears offer a tremedous punch off the line for me.

Right FiveO, I guess I should avoid those "probably" statements :o
I just looked at Billy's old thread and it makes perfect sense to me - 4.30's or 4.56's for NA applications; 4.10's for S/C'd :run:

Well?
I guess its the 4:10's for me then, thats what Dennis reccommended
anyway. I should have know better then to even doubt or try to secound
quess Dennis. Heheheheh
You all been a great help and I am very appreicative....
Thanks.:banana2:

No harm.....I just knew I remembered him saying that because I was considering a move to the 4.30's from the 4.10's...

Very happy with the 4.30s, nice low end grab, revs a little more freely at highway speeds, makes the additional s/c power more manageable, nice on the surface roads through the city, only problem is watching my launches on the base with artificially low speed limits, mostly 20-25 mph. -kjs-

I haven't any arguments about what you said. It was simply a minor misunderstanding. I fully agree w/what you had previously stated that 4.10 gears are the best overall trade-off for street driving our Marauders, while 4.56's will yield the best ET's at the track, as well as the best 60' times.
But having 4.56 gears on the street will be giving up a little bit of top end. Although not as much as most people think. My car still climbs to 100 MPH w/out even breathing hard, and up to 120 pretty good. But the transition from 100-120 is a bit slower than it was w/the 4.10 gears. But that never bothered me since I'm not into that crazy top end stuff on the street, and even on the dragstrip with a Supercharged Marauder, your trap speeds aren't going to exceed 111 or 112MPH anyway.
Even though i think that the 4.10's are the best compromise for the street, I wouldn't say that it's neccessarily a bad choice to go with the 4.30 gears or the 4.10's. But what i will say is that if you already have 4.10's in the rear, it would be an absolute waste of money to swap your 4.10's in your Marauder for 4.30's since you will definately not feel any difference in acceleration between those two ratios at all. They're that close. A 150 RPM difference at 70 MPH is nothing, and that's all that it is between the two ratios.
