I would like to take the opportunity to thank Joe Walsh, love his music, for all the hard work and time he put in to install the new gauges in the Black Bomber. Thanks Joe I could not have done it without you.

When we were out at Kenny Brown's for the BBQ durning MVII, I noticed the gauges in Mark's Silver Marauder S #10. After talking to David Frey about them I ordered a set of dual gauges for the #8. I now have a Boost/Fuel Pressure gauge and a true Oil Pressure/Volt gauge on the car.

I would also like to thank Norm at Kenny Brown's for his technical advice over the phone and for answering my questions.

I have included some pics of the Oil Sender and Boost Sender. In one pic you can see Joe with a drill, he had to drill a hole through the fire wall to run the wires from the gauges to the senders. As joe was drilling he gave an evil laugh and I winced as he went oops. Thanks for the heart attack Joe!! In another pic you can see he removed the computer to make it easier to drill the hole and he was nice enough to place a gromet in the hole for the wires. Then there is the pic of Joe's mobile dump...er tool truck/garage. The last pic is with the gauges installed and ready to be programed. Another bling factor for the Black Bomber.

Nice set up Gordon. Very nice!

I concur with Marty, those ARE nice! But then, I have a weakness for digital gauges.

I, too, was impressed with these on Mark's car, as well as Kermie out in the lobby. It solves a problem of not having enough room for gauges, since two share the space one normally does. I considered converting to these very gauges (may still do it, too), but the price of admission is steep.

Q: the back lite LCD's are very, very nice. But in daylight, how is visibility with these gauges? Is the backligthing always on, or only when the headlamps are on? Also, can you read them while wearing sunglasses?

Anyway, I am very impressed with your install!!

Nice.

But if I were you I'd be worried about that "-57" psi reading you have happening there for fuel pressure (I can accept the negative boost reading, showing low throttle openings and therefore a vacuum, but -57 PSI fuel pressure sounds like you'd be running a tad lean... although your fuel economy must absolutely rule!)

Hi Steve - Welcome back. :D

Thanks... I think.... I didn't know I was "gone".
Besides, it's taken much longer to read through all the new posts these days than was usual...

Thanks everyone!

First of all visibilty is no problem, you can adjust the brightness of the backlight you can even change it from green to red and yes they are always on.

The -57psi for fuel pressure is do to the fact that the fuel pressuer sender was not yet hooked up. I can also change the average read so it is not flashing the psi numbers as often.

And I can change the high/low warning light values and can even recall the maximum and mininum values.

And yes welcome back Steve.

Excellent job, Haggis...it's about damn time you got a REAL oil pressure gauge. Now if I can only convince Mac to get one, my work here will be done.

Gordon, did you have them in for your dyno run? How did you do? I know you were having some A/F and fuel pump issues.

I have been mulling over these gauges for my Marauder. The black bomber just pushed me one step closer. I wish they offered the aluminum bezels, then it would be really OEM looking.

Yep, he had them in. And his A/F wasn't to bad. A dip hear and a spike there, but nothing to really worry about.

As Phil said, they were installed for the dyno run. Joe finished installing while we were waiting for my turn. The psi would spike at 50 and then drop in to the 30's and go back and forth, but the A/F was in the safe range all the time. I need to adjust the average time readings so it doesn't read as often and keep flashing psi numbers so often.

The Black Bomber came away with 411rwhp and 372rwtq. It was about 11am-11:30am and the fog had lifted and it was starting to warm up. The car is staying pretty consistant in power from dyno to dyno, by the way it was on a Dynojet.

Nice, Gordon! Clean and shiny!

What are the buttons on the side of the pod for? Laughing gas and Turbo Injection Hyperbolic Booster System?

They are the program buttons for the gauges.

Could not come up with witty response this morning. :banghead:

Gordon, I was hoping that you wouldn't post that picture of my mobile tool box.....
BTW, If anyone is going to add a Fuel Pressure gauge you need to remove the Schrader fitting on the front of the driver's side fuel rail and replace it with AUTOMETER Part #3280. It is a 1/16" male NPT* to 1/8" female NPT fitting.
Most gauge 'sender' units are 1/8" NPT male.

*1/16" NPT (fuel rail/female) is impossible to find.

As Gordon mentioned...if your fuel pressure gauge is erratic/ jumping around alot, it could be due to the "Sample Rate" the gauge is set for. If it is "sampling" the fuel pressure TOO often, it can actually read the pulsing of the fuel pump. The sample rate is adjustable on the gauge/sender to help dampen the readings.

No biggie....I wasn't that worried about it....Now if my MM trunk looked like that, I definitely would not want the picture posted.

Those little red buttons (which I almost touched before Gordon and Joe stopped me :nono: ) are for the Batmobile Ejector Rear Seats for those backseat drivers. :drive:

The standard location for ejector seat buttons are on the center console shifter. I recommend the breakaway roof as a companion mod to avoid those messy back seat clean-ups.

Just to jump in here...

Here's the web site for the gauges I originally got: http://spatechnique.com/

How I discovered 'em was solely due to the genius of Dave Frey at KB. I told him what I wanted as we planned out the car (which was while I was waiting for silver '03s to get built) and how I wanted engine oil temp, trans temp, true oil pressure and true volts, plus a boost gauge. My original thinking was to swap the two gauges in the console, and then put a set up the A-pillar. But I stopped thinking about it when I realized it would look like ricer parascope there.

Kermie the Wonder Mustang has these gauges in it and I really wanted double gauges in each hole - Dave hooked me up to this idea and said it's the first set they've ever put in a street car. Now that I've seen Donny's car (I thknk that's the one) that has the third gauge where the lighter used to be, and the relocated lighter, I can think of a couple of other things I could put over there - maybe move the boost gauge to the console or something.

I recall hearing Steve Babcock talk about the reason there's a fake oil gauge in the MM is because the sender is so active. I can certainly vouch for that! Right after I got the car that gauge was so active it drove me nuts! Once I set the averaging time to 3 seconds, it settled down nicely.

The lights are always on, and mine are dialed down to the lowest setting. At their brightest, I think I could cook on 'em.

Anyway - I'm very pleased, although I do like Haggis' 'black-on-chrome' gauges. Mine are white, to match (I think so anyway) the other gauges in the car.

Haggis: I just got my camera back from the repair shop. Still need those pictures?

Mark I will not be needing those pics. Thank you for the offer, but Joe was able to figure it out and I had talked to Norm at KB for some advice. I would also like to thank you for letting me steal your idea, LOL!! The gauges look great in the car and I really like the dark face with the green back glow.

Joe and I were discussing that same thing after we installed Pod back in the dash.

Great post, Gordon. The Black Bomber certanly ranks in the top few MM's on the site. Congratulations!
I like Joe's music also. Here's one of my favorites: :cool3: My new Marauder goes 185 , I lost my license, and now I can't drive:cool3:

Although I'm an analog type, those are some cool looking gagues. Now you won't be "Living a Life of Illussion" when you think about oil pressure. Well, I'd better "Walk Away" before I do something to make "There goes the Neighborhood" happen.

Hey, I'm just an "Ordinary Average Guy"..."But Seriously Folks" all of these comments are putting me in a "Funk #49". I'm gonna go drink a beer to "Help Me Make It Through The Night"!
P.S. Since I bought my Marauder "Life's Been Good"
